What about Brazil? Hot chicks, nice beaches and the cost of livings is pretty low, the crime is pretty high though...
No, i've researched this quite a bit and hae decided on costa rica. The crime isn't bad, the cost of living is right, you can still get most of the things you can get in America.
If you happen to know, how are they with Americans moving/living there? Are they accepted friendly wise or ??? Thanks Greg
Crime is getting worse from what I've heard. I spoke with quite a few Americans who now live there and they don't think it's anything that should dissuade people from moving there. They're extremely nice people- IMO. I'm sure some of Mike's friends are idiots but there are drunks in every country.
OK, let's leave it like that in case you could be right. But anywho. People here like Americans, big time. Especially the girls.
The crime from what I hear is mostly petty theft and such though, correct? I think that's going to be the norm for any growing country or city.
Yeah but murders and violent crimes are becoming more common too. Mostly in the cities from what I've heard. Definitely nothing to worry about though. It's still (much) safer than the US in terms of crimes per-capita.
Just like anywhere else you have to use common sense and know your surroundings. I'm visiting for 10 days starting on the 6th to get the ball rolling, start looking for places to rent, etc.
If someone could fill in these questions it will be very helpful: 1-Cost of renting or buying a one-bedroom apartment? 2-Cost of living; electricity, water, ADSL? 3- Is it completely ok if one only speaks English? 4-Any other helpful info May be 1EightT could answer these items after he's been
I'm sure Mike can answer these better... 1) Depends on where you want to live and what kind of place you want. You can probably rent a small house in most areas for as little as $500/month. Probably more near the beach. 2) It's cheap. From what I've heard, "high speed" service is pretty unreliable. But I'm sure that depends on the area in which you plan on living. CR's infrastructure sucks ass! 3) No. Just learn Spanish if you plan on moving there.
Rent varies depending on location, beach, city, etc. In quite a few areas I hear the internet is quite good, but as Rob pointed out it depends on where you live. One of my customers has a 4mb line that he says is very reliable, but it runs him about 168.00 a month. Internet is one of the more expensive things there. I would never move to a country with a native language and not try to learn the language. Not only will you miss out on the culture, but it's also socially unacceptable in my opinion.
Ok guys thanks for answering my questions. I can NOW WITH CONFIDENCE eliminate Costa Rica from my list. But where would I go? May be I will make a new thread and get a few ideas.
What did we say that eliminated costa rica from your plans? Seems like one of the better places in the world to live.
