Not to sound shallow, but when the photo is actually real, and the lady is attractive, I take notice. What can I say, I'm a single guy living in Las Vegas, and spent 8 years Bartending in Night Clubs. Just being honest.
Well, yes. It's a little bit of your personality screaming through. That's what I think they should be. Siggies fair 'nough, that's real estate to sell if you want to but your avatar should be about you.
I enjoy beautiful and funny avatars most, and ones which use cute characters. They also attract attention. I dont like disgusting avatars, or those which have weapons or some kind of violence.
The ones that stand out are the ones that are in 100 other peoples avatar. Putting your advertisement in multiple users avatars is a great way to catch someones eye because they go "Oh, I've seen that before!" and they read the avatar after seeing it a few times.
Since DP is using a green template, bright ones like pink usually get to me. I adblock ones I find annoying though
Bender has certainly caught my attention of late... I hate men with women on their avatars, just confuses me .... fruit on the other hand is fine...
An avatar that is unique will always catch my attention. It's hard to say though, because it depends on how busy I am while I am surfing...
The only avatar i can remembered until now is the Mario 1 uping peach, that's catchy. If you're saying for marketing purposes, i don't think avatar is going to work well. At least for me, I haven't type in and visit a site through avatar before.

Richie, your original Avatar with Snoopy was really good. I liked it. As for the comment about men using female avatars, I really dont like that either. Also, some men prefer to use a female name sometimes to attract attention which is quite absurd and I hate that too.
surely if your avatar is real one, then sure it take much attention as those marketing avatar ! like 8everything, always doing experiment with her avatar status... on upper half she use her picture and on below half she doing advertising of her site... I'm not male!!!! I still have the old avatar in my profile pic I do miss Richie_ni's Snoopy, he also has one in his profile pic.

I think the v7n contextual avatars are quite successful. They always manage to catch my attention in every part of this forum.
