One of my domain names (InstantArticleWizard.com) ranks #1 for its name keywords "instant article wizard" (with or without the quotes). However, I recently did a major overhaul of the software, upgrading it to 2.0. Within two days of launching the update, the #1 search result for "instant article wizard 2.0" (with or without quotes) was not my site, but a Squidoo lens. Check it out: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=instant+article+wizard+2.0&btnG=Google+Search And now, a week later, after dozens of articles linking to my site have been spread around the web, Google still ranks that lens #1. This tells me that big G is seriously in love with Squidoo. Use that knowledge to your advantage! Create Squidoo lenses for your keywords. I wish I had done that for my product upgrade. Oh, well, at least it's an affiliate's site ranking #1! J. Leger
It's a non-competitive keyword term no one searches for (according to wordtracker and overture). You should use the DP keyword suggestion tool for keywords that will bring you traffic.
Thanks, but that's not my point. My point is that despite having dozens of articles now pointing to my site with "instant article wizard 2.0", the Squidoo lens still outranks me. That tells me Google is in love with Squidoo.
The Squidoo lens didn't exist before my launch of 2.0, and within 2 days was number one for the search phrase. Seven days later, it's still number one, despite all of my new backlinks to my site. I think Google does rank sites fast--at least Squidoo lenses.
A PR6 site that is 6 years old (over 3500 backlinks) outranking a PR3 that is less than a year old (with 26 backlinks) - for a keyword that no one searches for shouldn't be that surprising.
I dont think its true for all the lenses. Search for the squidoo lense in my signature and you will realise its not been crawled even after 7 days. I think it depends on the lense and its category. I am new to squidoo anyways, let's see what other experts have to say.
The PageRank of Squidoo's home page is a PR6. This particular lens has no page rank at all. This particular lens has no links to it at all -- my site has dozens.
You should know that a page that new isn't going to be showing toolbar PR or google backlinks. Yahoo shows several backlinks to that page on Squidoo.
Yeah, 3 links. My site has 24 (according to Y!). Again I say, I should outrank it, but don't--Google loves Squidoo.
I'm sorry if you're unhappy that I am counter-arguing your points, mjewel. But that's no reason for slander. J. Leger
Honestly, tonyrocks, this is my first real experience with Squidoo. I'm not sure what the person who created this particular lens is doing to make it so darn popular with Google.
I'd say that accusing me of spamming fits #1 and #2 rather well. True, in a legal sense it's libel, not slander, but them I'm not trying to sue you. I used the term slander in it's more common meaning of defamation, which your accusation certainly qualifies as. J. Leger

Slander is oral defamation - libel is written defamation. Now you can get back to spamming broken software like your adsense gold.
