Could I get more submissions by raising my prices?

I know it sounds backwards, but I am starting to wonder if I am being too genrous and my low prices cheapen my directory. Currently I offer regular links at $2.99 and featured links at $9.99. I have heard it said before that having prices too low scares people away because they think that you are not serious. I have spent a lot of money on promotion and I am thinking maybe I should raise prices to show I am serious. If I increase revenue than I can do even more promotion and other improvements. If I charge more will this help me? Thus far, I have kept prices low to encourage people to submit there sites and have come nowhere close to making a decent return on investment.

i think it depends on what you are happy with
if you arent meeting your promotion costs then increase
if its a matter of you think you should just be charging more then compare your directory with others and youll get an idea
sometimes a very low pricing can make people cautious
personally i think you could raise the prices but maybe wait til next pr update so your pr spreads throighout your cat stucture better
    imo of course :)

Who knows if you don't give it a try yourself?

If you have lots of empty categories and want to build up your database then a low price might be best.

I don't think people will be too put off by the bargain price. Personally I would be put off by the 'Poor Credit Loans' sitewide link and also the design, everything looks great apart from the choice of font.

This is just my friendly opinion, these are the factors that I would notice whilst deciding to submit or not. However, I think you could raise the price to $4.95 and it would still be a fair price.

i think you have a reasonable prize. I think raising your price and expecting more submissions may or may not work. You have to experiment the least.

What would your suggestion be in a change of font? I agree accepting the poor credit loans link was a bad idea but I was learning when I sold it and it is still paid for so I can't remove it. After it expires I will remove it and only add relevant sites. I quess all I can do is play with pricing options and see what works best.

I kind of do want it to fill up a little and that is part of my prior decision to keep prices low .

hmm If its easy to change the font I would just choose whichever looks best of arial, century gothic, tahoma or Microsoft Sans Serif.

Maybe its just me, but the current choice is abit arkward on the eyes. I like the category titles (in red) on the homepage, the subcategory titles are the problem.

I have had that same regret in the past, hehe.

IMO set it at $3.95. Its underpriced at the moment.

    Hello..

Truthfully I was at 14.99 reg and 24.99 Featured and i raised by $5.00 and actually received more submitting
so while its totally up to you if the increase is minor and the quality is above average then it wont stop them from submitting.

What i hate is that clowns using autosubmitter tools and not paying as i get way to many of those anymore so that will be
coming to a close soon enough as we are making a mod for phpld... will share when available

    thx

I think your template is too bright and fonts need to be smaller. Changing your template might present your directory more professional.

I looked at the page source and saw the ?> and I found that text in the header.tpl but the ?> was not there. Any ideas?

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
    Code (markup):

What PR are your inner pages. Look at rival sites, what are they charging. If i am going to spend $10 on a directory link, i will spend it on the highest quality, highest PR site. So if your rival has same inner PR pages, but charges lower, i may think they do that to get more submissions, therefore their site is more spammy. So perhaps increase your price by $2 or so. Experiment in different months, see which brings you more. higher prices may get less submissions, but may mean more revenue. Its up to you really.

Well, I am sure you will promote it but the thing is not everyone understands that point. :(

I have changed the Submission Price of Best Web Directory back to normal after running an "Exclusive" promotion for almost 10 days. And since then. no submission... So you can get the idea ;)
