Nice collection of ideas, thanks! What is the overhead for using mod_rewrite to generate SE-friendly urls on a busy forum? Many larger forums (like this one) do not use SE-friendly urls, is this the reason?
Yes ... it can be ... but not all mods are generating big overhead ... for example vbseo have several options to generate your SE URL's ... Regards
We have many large and very active forums running vBSEO with minimal performance impact. What we have found is that forums that are already at or near their server's capacity *before* installing vBSEO will experience performance issues. Servers that are well within their computing limitations should be fine. Sometimes it's just a matter of making a few tweaks to the server configuration. Here is a new look at the topic of "Link Consenus", the SEO state that is only achieved for vBulletin forums with vBSEO installed: http://www.vbseo.com/f2/pin-tail-seo-donkey-link-consensus-14029/ Here are some of the common vBSEO optimization tips we provide: http://www.vbseo.com/f2/vbseo-optimization-tips-12963/ If you are an existing vBSEO customer, our vBSEO Total Support team will assist you.
