Who killed Jesus?

I’ve been reading conflicting stories but mostly about Jews being blamed for the death of Jesus. Is there any base to these stories In the gospel or elsewhere? Especially that the Roman Catholic Church had officially repudiate the Christ-killer belief in 1960s during the Second Vatican Council?

Do all Christian churches agree with the Roman Catholic Church on that matter? And What about the general Christian public, do they hold that notion as valid still?

the general belief among christians is that the jews pushed the roman govt. to crucify Jesus. Pontious Pilate actually washed his hands of the situation, only after handing Jesus over to be crucified at the requests of the jews....I think the main question would come to this:

Does it matter who or why Jesus was crucified?

Read Genesis 3:15. It will give you an idea who really killed Jesus.

If you believe in Jesus as the son of God, he was destined to die as a sacrifice to wash mankind of all their sins. The generally accepted version is that the Jews were fed up with Jesus because he was bad for business, so they asked for his execution.

There are many conflicting stories to all the details right down to the stories that he was not ever really crucified. Basically if you are a Christian and believe the Bible is the word of God, I suggest that you will find your answer in the Bible. Just don't be blind in your faith and let others lead you around like a puppy, read it for yourself and interpret what you believe it means.

Good luck in your search both scholarly and spiritually.

He cared so much for us that he laid down his life out of compassion and mercy . He was the ultimate peacemaker who loved so completely that would have given anything for us including his life. His destiny was prewritten

Are you saying that it was all part of the big plan to get himself crucified and killed?

Did he pre-plan or pre-determine the events leading to his execution?

If I understand this correctly, it means that he conspired with others (his disciples, Jews, Romans) to plot his own murder. So no one is really there to blame. They were all doing their duties perfectly well as Jesus wished.

At the transfiguration, Jesus was discussing his death with Moses and Elijah... So yeah I guess he did pre-plan his execution...

If I remember correctly, Ponchus Pilot, the Roman gave the actual order to have jesus crucified, even though he personally knew that Jesus should go free, instead of the thief he intended to set free (can't remember why, but he had to let one of them go free). But the crowd persuaded him to Crucify Jesus instead of the theif, never really understood why...

Well I guess I have just found the only use in my life for compulsory Religious Education in schools!

Right, and he didn't die so people can act holy and point fingers at others for his death.

Jesus was both a genius and a nut job who believed himself to be the son of God or the embodiment of God on earth whichever story you believe in.

He was killed for professing to be the son of God at the behest of the jews.

Sucks, were he alive today we'd just either lock him up in a crazy house or ignore him like the guys on the street with end of the world signs.

I didn't notice anybody ask for your incorrect opinion on who Jesus was.

Anyway, Jesus gave his own life to save us, so it doesn't matter who killed him, it had to be done and it's something we should be grateful for. That doesn't mean whoever killed him did nothing wrong, it was just as wrong as any other murder, but today it shouldn't matter. I guess it's interesting for historical purposes, and it was the Roman soldiers that actually killed him, but the Jewish leaders that pressured the Roman leaders who commanded the Roman soldiers. But there is no reason to hate Romans or Jews, they were just doing their pre-ordaned job, and hopefully they later repented, believed, and went to heaven. Cause Jesus died for them just the same as you and me. :)
