Hi everyone. I am webmaster though my sites are ranking good on google. But not on yahoo and msn on same keywords. However i would like to know what are the basic techniques for promoting websites online so that it can rank in top 10 and can retain it for long time. For top 10 rating it's more about SEO than promoting in general. To rank higher on MSN and Yahoo use keyword (that you want to be ranked high) more often on your website. Well, here's something I did to increase my site traffic, and it has helped with pageranks and search engine stuff as well.
Try doing some SEO on your site. You can use the basic techniques such as directory and article submission, forum posting, blog posting and social bookmarking. I tried all of these techniques and it really helped in improving my site's PR.
My prime form of advertising is article marketing. Although I do a lot of forum posting also, with a link to my sites in my sig file.

learn some basic SEO from this forum and spend some small money on promoting services section, sure you will get some good results. ^^

give away a free report that plugs the user value of your site, and post a llink to your free report in your forum sig. Just answer the question in your report "why should you come to my site?" Or you can write lots of short keyword rich articles with links to yor site in the bio box and submit to ezinearticles and goarticles. (goarticles is less picky) Submit at least one article per day. If you submit more than one per day, try to submit to different categories on ezinearticles to get more traffic.

Is the only way to earn money on the internet by promoting, selling and affiliating with money making products? It seems that's all I see, and why to optimize SEO...just to earn money promoting earning money products. Anybody doing anything different?
Assuming the word products includes both goods and services, then obviously the only way to make money is with money making products. You won't make money with a product that doesn't make money. And, if you are making money by selling and/or marketing something (which you can do either as a producer, reseller, or affiliate), then that something is a product.
