Have you seen this on your latest update on Windows XP "you may be a victim of software counterfeiting"? Microsoft now identifying OS piracy and asks to buy a Genuine OS to fix this problem. You won't get any more latest updates until you buy a valid licence key... Do you people will this action work for microsoft or will junkies still do any program to bypass this ?
It will be very difficult to weed out software piracy problem unless all the countries take tough stand on this. I think, in the short term future, problem of piracy will continue
They've been doing this for a long time... and it's only really, a good way of saying "stop using a pirated license key".
That comes up on my computer all the time, it's friggen annoying And im not buying a license just to make it go away (hell I dont even know where I got this computer from)
The problem is not that, in many countries 100$ is the income for one month or maybe too.So people don't have the money to buy the software. If "all the countries take tough stand on this" people don't buy the software they go to Linux and opensource software. Also companies because they don't have people that know a software (because they don't have money to buy it) will go also to open source (and don't buy a Windows or Office license). So Microsoft and other companies will loose money at the level of companies. Companies in general don't loose money from software piracy, because if people don't get a cracked software because they don't have money will not buy it.It is very simple. Not all people have 2000$ income per month.
Buying a key does have it's benefits, you get updates and all. Besides XP licensing has become ridiculously cheap now that Vista is out.
Maybe in Canada and America Windows " is ridiculously cheap", not elsewhere. Why don't people from software companies donate programs for Universities and stundents from poor countries?
They do. There are student versions of a lot of OS and I know Office, and Photoshop have a University, and a student version. Dell, just donates the whole computer. Sun Microsystems has a crap load of open source software. There are donations all over the place.
I said in poor countries ,not America. I know better the situation, then you,I see you are from NV. What you see on television or in press release is not always what you see in school from poor countries.Open source in general is free. And the student version for Autocad is 150$ ,Photoshop 150$.If a people(worker) have a income 70-100$(and maybe low) how do you think a student can buy a student version?
There is counterfeit everything. designer bags, software, scripts, so forth. only thing that's different is the support you get with buying the legit. actually let me take that back, you still need to pay for computer support. just look at the nerdsquad from bestbuy.
yes you have right not everybody can buy a prada bag The solution is to make version for that countries at low and very low prices for the company but good prices for the people in that countries. A solution is what Asus did , they make ASROCK motheboards - yes few option, but mantain quality and low prices.
What's the deal? the genuine check exists for a year or so. If people will crack it? sure, they already did - a year ago
I just ordered 2 more XP licensens a couple weeks ago, and the pricing was EXACTLY the same as for VISTA
I think software is always going to be able to cracked... The only thing to reduce software piracy is to improve the image of the software company. For example I would be more understanding of someone who cracked software, because the prices were extortionate, than of someone who cracked software from a company with decent prices and discounts for students. Maybe one day, Piracy might go away, but not for a while yet... Diarmuid
Many years ago MS has intruduced a system for their OS for a more symbolic price and slimmed the version a bit. I think it was about 35 USD. Not many took that chance. This was negotiated on govt level but to no avail.
QFT. This update may influence some worried people to buy the key, but for most it will just be another annoyance on their PC.
Some people who did not realize (for some reason or another) that their product key is illegal, might buy a new one. I think it's a good idea from Microsoft because the people who do have fake keys will get very annoyed. They'll find a way to bypass this though.
all i can say is it really annoying and lame and there are so many crcks for it that its pointless tbh
True here in Pak average pay is $50 a month and lower who u think will buy a licensed software which is minimum $50 here ppl save up for months to buy a PC which sell as junk here in US, average PC here is a P2 or a P3.
