Im relatively new to the proxy game and I had a proxy that had good traffic (about 250 uniques/day) and was about 8 days old. Then I had the bright idea of putting adversal on it to make a bit more money, now I'm getting less than 80 UVs a day! Recurring visitors are definitely pissed off. Anyone else experience this or are my promotion techniques just bad?
I'm just as angry with myself for using Adversal as you are. I have a proxy that was getting 5000-6000 uniques everyday. Then, I too, had the bright idea of putting Adversal pop-unders on it to make a bit more money. I did, 2 days ago, and since then, my traffic has reduced to about 3000 uniques per day. I removed Adversal a few hours ago. NEVER EVER USE ADVERSAL IF YOU WISH NOT TO LOSE YOUR VISITORS!
Well, if your proxy depends on return visitors (most do), then it will really affect your traffic. How many UVs/day were you getting originally murph?
I just placed it on mine about 24 hours ago...I haven't gotten today's stats yet, but when I do I'll determine whether or not it stays.
You can do it in php too...say display once every 10 page loads. check if a session variable is set or not, then increment by one every page load. if var = 10 then show popup and reset variable.
Once every 100-200 page loads would probably be best for proxies. I doubt many surfers would be annoyed with that.
True True, I am sure no one would be annoyed by that, but it would be almost completely useless too, better to just take it off if your going to do that. I have used adversal on my proxies since day one, which was mid April this year. I have experienced good growth and solid up and to the right. Getting about 8500 views per day and roughly 1/3 of that is UV. Constantly grows. Since most major places block proxies in a week or two or less your not going to have a lot of long term residual anyway. IMO. But that is just my opinion, and I havent been in this all that long. What I can say is that adversal pays for my hosting, plus a small profit. And I pay for good, solid, fast hosting. None the less I make good money with adversal. If I removed adversal I don’t think that I would get enough Additional traffic to make up for the money I would lose. Thus even if I get fewer visitors, but make more money, then to me I am still ahead. Since I am in it for making money. So I don’t know why everyone else makes proxies, but if anyone is doing it for a hobby and doesn’t care about money then I would be happy to have you volunteer to help me, and I will talk you up to my friends all week long Just my two cents. Lol 250 uniques a day is nothing. Don't worry about it. Just it's a good thing you learned your lesson without a big traffic base.
