Finding good keywords

I'm struggling to find good keywords to use in adwords for my vaious campaigns, been using the keyword generation programs but they only produce the competitive keywords which have a high bid and low conversion rate.

I was thinking of the following: I would suggest a topic and you would come up with 20 keyphrases (must be 3 words or longer). I'd be looking to pay $10 for the 20 keyphrases. Anyone here offer a similar service or willing to offer us help in coming up with keywords?

Check the keyword research tools on this page. You should be able to come up with quite a few less competitive keywords.

Yes , use keyword research tools.

dont use unique keywords , use minimum 2 keyword and add '' '' to keywords in adwords.

Also, if you sell a product, list all of the products including brand names, model numbers, specifications etc, including all combinations...

what would you use if you weren't selling a product but a service, such as solicitors, accountants, etc?

Look at your impressions for different keywords on your adwords campaign, the more impressions your keywords have, often the easier it is to find similar keywords.

i had a search on overture and google adwords and the keywords for solicitors are going for upto £30 per click for 1-3 and from £5 for 3-10. These were for phrases like "no win no fee solicitor". What keywords would you guys suggest we use instead?

Are there any keyword programs (such as keyword elite) which are targetted for UK data?

Remember that keywords dont need major traffic to be considered good keywords.

Some of my best keywords come straight from my brain. Better yet - they come from niche specific forums and derive from what people are actually talking about.

When I start a campaign, I dont even open my keyword research tool until I have exhausted my brain.

Just keep them highly targeted and relevant.

Relevant Keywords = Relevant Clicks = More Sales

Irrelevant Keywors = Irrelevant Clikcs = Less Sales

You say > " produce the competitive keywords which have a high bid and low conversion rate"

I doubt that people would be bidding high on keywords that dont convert.

This leads me to two suggestions:

    1) These keywords are irrelevant to your product.

    2) You are not optimizing your campaigns to your target audience as well as you should.

Longer tail keywords are great as they bring in the highly targeted traffic but if your message is not targetted to these people then it will cost you lots of money!

    Cheers

    Stewart

I always create my own keyword lists, only consulting the suggestion tools to come up with synonyms and popular adjectives.

The suggestion tools list the most searched for terms, which tend to be the opposite of the most profitable (which are usually in the long tail).

The problem with Keyword Tools is that they might give you a whole bunch of keywords but obviously these programs cannot know what you or your customers are really looking for.
Even when you use Keyword Elite (yes, it also does UK data) you would still
compile your list manually and use the tool several times for each seed keyword.

Try to look for buyer-type phrases. People who are ready to buy or almost ready to buy often type in things like: "compare xyz products" or "best xyz solutions".
Look at your product/service and think of synonyms for it.
(If you sell a manual on xyz use words like "xyz guide", "xyz solution" or "xyz book", "xyz service".)
This will filter out poeple that are just looking for information and are not ready to buy yet.

I can not undestand - "..upto £30 per click for 1-3 and from £5 for 3-10.."
A simple calculation shows that for 1000 clicks you have to spend upto 30 000 GBP.
Serious price for your product is needed, and it's not for affiliates and resellers.

BTW - is everybody here selling his own product? Are there any affiliates or resellers?
It seems to me that I miss something in the "doing online bussiness".

I manage campaigns for other companies.

£30 per click sounds a bit steep to me, though I've got campaigns where £5 per click only gets about 5th position with a minimum bid of £0.03 - £0.05
