If I ordered Private Registration with Godaddy last year and I go to renew the name this year, do I HAVE TO renew the private registration?

No you dont, but you will need to log into DomainsByProxy & disable the privacy first before renewing, otherwise the privacy will auto-renew as well

No, you are not obligated to renew the private registration. They are treated as twp separate services.

Okay. So then when I go to renew domain names how come there is no "remove" link to remove purchasing private registration?!?

Check the email where you get your GoDaddy notices. When you first regged the domains, should would have gotten an email from domains by proxy. You will need to log into their site with the provided details (differnt customer #, but same password as godaddy).

I had to do this recently myself.

If it is auto renewal I guess the private registration charges will roll on, it is better to ask your registrar to remove the private registration before the expiry date.
