Ok so one of the ways to find link partners is by searching google, looking up the who-is info and sending e-mail tothe site owner.
Is that any good from your experience? How many does actualy reply? How many trade? And most important - how many of them are honest webmasters who do not remove hardlink after a week or month

    Do you have any experience?

Roughly 90% of my link building is done this way, and I personally find it very successful. I don't use the whois info however, as normally there is contact information on the site/page I wish to get a link from. I'm also not looking for trades, but one-way links.

To answer your questions, most don't reply (they just simply add the link or they don't), and never (to my knowledge) have I had a link removed. I would suspect the prospect of having the link removed would be higher if I was looking for a reciprocal.

why bother with all those head aches? I use Receive Links to get my links and verify they are not removed by webmasters.

The only way you should have 100% paid links is if your site is brand new or if it sucks...

A good site with worthy content will generate links from forums, blogs, and related sites.

I've never paid for a link.

Why wouldn't they give me a link back? If my sites are genuine resources that complement their own sites, and if they are geniunely interested in giving their visitors information at their fingertips (for example, .edu sites), then getting a link is not as hard as some would believe.

If it was a headache I wouldn't bother, but the fact is I actually enjoy getting links this way. And I would wager that my approach is a lot more future-proof than the scheme at receivelinks.com. But each to their own and I wish you continued success with your method.

I use the same methods as Phlegm Jar. More often than not, you do not get a reply. However, sometimes you not only get a link, but you also then create a new contact and you can go on to discuss further possibilities of "cross marketing" your sites.

You should better have a look in the Link Exchanges or Link Sales forum here.

    i agree

link building especially on larger scale projects is best done on a personal level.

approach the individual and give them a reason tolink to you.

email or even call or snail mail them to say

"Hi i have a site which complements yours really well and i am looking to try and promote it more. If you would be interested please take a look at my site and see if there are any particular stories which you may be interested in. if you do find anything then please link to it. you can find our generic links here and obviously you can use one of our banners here or here"

this works for me even on corporate sites.
