Hi there, I'm getting most of my website hits from StumbleUpon but I'm not too sure why... Looking at my website stats the URL that is sending me a lot of hits is something like stumbleupon.com/refer.php I use the site occasionally to trade stumbles with people, and sometimes I press the Stumble! button on my toolbar to look and stumble other peoples websites, but how am I getting so many hits? How exactly does Stumble work? Thanks for any help. Matt
You have fans that thumb up pages on your site. That will get the pages in question sent to more people interested in those subjects. If they too thumb it up (and apparently they do), it will be sent to even more people. Congratulations on that: it means free PR for your site, which may lead to links to your site and in the end higher results in the search engines as well. I would advise also trying to get links from other sites though - so that you aren't dependent on stumble traffic for too long. It's better to get your traffic from various sources, if only because stumble traffic hardly clicks on ads.
Thanks for this kh7, rep added Never really understood how the whole site worked, now I do... So if someone who uses Stumble Upon click the Stumble! button on their browser, theres a chance that my website will be shown? (if they select the correct interests)? Thanks. Matt
Don't forget StubleUpon's userbase is quite big and getting bigger every day. So if a few people submit your site/articles, you can expect some good traffic depending on your niche.
Yes, because people have already thumbed up pages on your site. And by the sound if it, it's not just possible, it's actually likely. Your site must really fit the userbase of stumbe well. Give us the URL and we can help get it even more popular by thumbing it up
Since people already like what you have to say add these right on your pages... Bookmark with del.icio.us Bookmark with Y!MyWeb Submit to Digg Stumble It BlogThis Hopefully this gets you even more fans!
Yes that is right. If they have chosen your sites topic as an area of interest then your site might show up. They may give you the thumbs up, thumbs down or just move on. The more thumbs up you get the longer the traffic keeps coming.
Oh right, okay thank you everyone for helping, rep has been given for the helpful replies My website is http://www.paid2review.co.uk/, as I never really understood the use or diggs/stumbles I think I will now add the links to each of my pages Would it be best to add a stumble/digg link to every article on my site, or every page? Thanks again. Matt
Stumble is great for getting traffic to youtube videos. And you can advertise your website in the youtube video or the description
Congrats that means that your visitors are enjoying you site and are promoting it via stumbelupon for you
Personally I don't do any of that stuff. I'd start with adding the buttons to those specific pages that are getting stumbled. Those are the ones that are 'viral' - people are telling other people about them. Your main page isn't in stumbleupon, so that's not the page people are interested in. [edit] Sorry: your main page IS what people are interested in. In that case I'd just add the buttons to every page and be done with it[/edit]
Thanks for this kh7. When you say my main page IS what people are interested in, how did you find this out? Is there a way to check which parts of my sites people are stumbling? Thanks again. Matt
Yes it would be best to add it to every page. Take a look at most blogs or press releases at prweb.com they all have it. It just makes it easier for users to click on your stuff.
I never tried promoting my site with stumbleupon, then one day I got about 5,000 visitors from stumbleupon, one of my pages was "featured." It helped with backlinks as all the people that saw it thumbed it which added links.
Usually, an internal landing page, or a specific post (for blogs) can get more stumbles and thumbs up from users. People can tag the topic with related keywords and tags and hence it will get more thumbs and stumbles from users interested in the niche. It's not always the case that your home page will get stumbles only. I'd suggest that you add 'bookmark me' links to all the pages of your site, so it can get more stumbles / diggs etc etc which will help bring more traffic to your site.
welcome to the online community! u shld start harnessing the benefits of these social bookmarking sites as mentioned above if u want any chance of making your site successful.
Thanks for all the helpful replies. With StumbleUpon, do you just get one website per user account? I mean, if someone clicks the Stumble! button on the toolbar then my website might turn up, just wondered if there is a way of adding a second or third website without opening a new account? Thanks. Matt
