Is Dmoz the top directory online? :D

I herd that they were:eek: the online as a directory because Google and all the back link checkers search for your site here first if you are not listed with them your site may not be noted as a top level / ranking web site online just a tip

    from the guru in Hawaii:)
submit your link their and feel confidant that your site will be better off in the long run" :D

As all were saying. It's one of the best, not only that it's Google's baby but Google's search engine is feeding with links from it.

On the other hand the waiting time is equal to eternity, the say the moderate them manually and that's why it takes so long...

i think getting a listing in dmoz is vital for top 10 positions in google. google directory is based on dmoz. all my competitors have dmoz listings. sites with pr3 are outranking my site (which has pr5). i update my site literally every day with fresh new content. but despite all this - i cannot pass them. dmoz is for the missing piece.

I disagree. I work on many sites that have no DMOZ, because they haven't the heart to wait for 12 months. But after I've done some work on their sites quite a few are in Google's top 5, and some are no'1.

The Google's version has not been updated in two years (though, if you search the Google Directory you'll get updated results *boggles* )

I'd not put too much stock in Google caring all that much... or, heh, even AoL caring.

It takes two minutes to submit a site... what heart does that take? The only thing worse then submitting and not getting in is not even trying.

It's probably one of the best, but it's one of the slowest, it can take months for them to even consider you!

    I would say...

    1. Yahoo (Oldest)
    2. DMOZ (Collective effort)
    3. BOTW (University Project)

These are the directories right from the infancy the Web. There were other old ones like MSN SBD and Zeal but they are extinct now.
