http://rubylearning.com/ Ads look cool but im pretty sure they break the TOS by drawing undue attention to the ads
Ah ha - it's these backgrounds again. The people who supply them say they don't breach the TOS, but they would say that wouldn't they? I personally think they draw undue attention to the ads and therefore are against the TOS. I wouldn't risk it myself.
I believe that the background image I have used is completely safe and compliant with the AdSense TOS. The only pictures Google says that would violate this, are the ones that point to the ads or ask for them to be clicked. I have also written to Google and asked for their opinion. Let's see. Have you checked this site?
Still waiting for Google's reply. One question though - People probably have a problem with the Man as a background on my main page. What about the banner on the top of my Ruby Certification page? Is that too a problem?
I had a simple gradient from white to blue near the ads, and they asked me to remove it. It may take a while but eventually the webmaster will receive a Google warning.
Thanks for the mention! I personally wouldn't test my luck with the guy holding the ads. It looks bad -- who wants that guy on their site anyway?? All my backgrounds are non-specific and very, very general looking.
Okay, the issue is the background image of a man on my main page. What about the image in the center of this page? Would that violate Google's terms?
Nice placement satishtalim. I think all of them are good and not against TOS. Will be interesting to hear what Google says.
I think the center image would be fine... but its of poor quality. The yellow bg of the ad doesn't match the color of the image, and the image looks hazy. Try this one instead... better quality and definitely would look better.
Well Google replied: The background images used on http://rubylearning.com/other/certification.html and http://rubylearning.com/satishtalim/first_ruby_program.html would be considered a violation of our program policies because it could draw unnatural attention to your ads. Publishers are not permitted to encourage users to click on Google ads or bring excessive attention to ad units. For example, you may not use symbols or misleading images that direct attention to the ads on their sites. We ask that you please restore the ads to their intended settings. We ask that publishers copy and display the ad code exactly as it appears in the 'Your AdSense code' box of your AdSense account without any modifications. Please keep in mind that modifying the ad code or drawing unnatural attention to the ads are against our program policies. Surprisingly, no mention by Google of the 'man' image on my main page!! The question now remains is whether anyone can use any background images at all? Also would cagintranet's images be allowed or not? ( Two image attachments for posterity! )
Google has limits as to how many Google ads can be used on your page! On one page, you may have three ad units, two search boxes, one link unit, and two referral units.
thanks satishtalim, if i request you to see my blog and advise on how to improve, will i violate TOCs. thanks
