Newbie: adword mystery?

    Hi,

I am in a homebased business (MLM) and I recently did a random search on google for a select keyword. I n oticed when I came on a page there were no adwords on the page. Now what should this be telling me. Could I use those words and be ranked #1 or is there something that I am missing?

Sounds like a good idea. Its not only a question of ranking number one it is also a question of how much you would need to bid. If there are no sponsored results for that search then it would seem to me that you could get those keywords really cheaply - maybe 5 cents.

This do not means that no one is bidding on that keyword as some ads may not shown for every search.

This is true, but the Quality Score system will be applied anyway - if he has an ad or landing page quality issue, the keyword will have a high min bid.

I am not really sure I understand the "quality score system" could you explain? I have used digitalpoint tools to do research on keywords that people are typing in for searches and still I do not see any of those words come up. Also what would a "quality isssue" of concern be for me? I have at least 10 and I am working on 10 more landing pages right now.

If there is noone bidding in any country on this term and you have a high quality score, if it possible to get all your clicks for 1 cent.

Google evaluates the quality of your landing pages, your ad and the relationship Keyword-AdCopy and Adcopy-LandingPage Text.
They want to see everything fit together with not only an opt-in form on the landing page but some text and links with that keyword.

    But one more thing:
If the keyword you selected is very exotic it could mean nobody is bidding on it for a reason: The reason being that is has not too many searches.
Usually the number of adwords ads is an indicator for profitability (not a guarantee but an indicator). So maybe nobody is bidding on it because they couldn't make money?

If the keyword is a rare one and with no AdWords competition you might even consider ranking for it organically - without paying for an ad

I thought it was a good idea, and still do. However, I would suggest that you didn't count on it too much. Because if it's a non-relevant "bargain" keyword that does not deliver clicks (low CTR), you will be surprised how quickly Google will lower your qaulity score and demand that you raise your Min CPC

Well...okay here's the deal. I took the abrv of my companies name and added the first and last name of the top ranking money earners in my respected company. I am in the processs of making sure that the landing page, keywords, and adword copy all are insinct.

Sputnik is dead-on. At first you think: Yeah, I'll own this keyword! Then you realize it's no good to own this keyword if no one searches for it. This may or may not be the case with you (I've "owned" some keywords that were cheap and which a decent number of people did search for). But most likely it's a false hope... Only way to know is run it for a few days.
