I started my website, www.bbgtalk.com in early march. This was my second website. My first website was a strategy game, so SEO was not as important. However, this time round SEO was a must for my forum. I optimised my vbulletin, and began my link building campaign. I started the link building around 20th March, and around 2nd May when the PR snapshot was taken, i had only submitted to a few directories. When the PR export was made to the datacentres at the end of the month i glanced at my toolbar. WOW - a PR3. My site had made a PR3 within only a few weeks. Perhaps it was due to the foolishness of spending $$$ on wordcloud sites. I managed a PR3 from buying PR5 and PR6 links on spammy sites, which was a mistake. The other links i bought since, we quality PR5 links on sites selling no more than 10 links. According to iwebtool, a few days after these links had been bought i was due a PR4. So the $$$ spent on links had only given me a predicted PR of 1 more than i already had, which was dissapointing. What next? In the services form, genx_wan was selling manual directory submission for only $39 for 800 submissions. I went for it, and got loads of emails with approved submissions. Just now, i checked iwebtool as i thought my predicted PR may have changed. Guess what! Predicted PR of 6. YES, a PR6. If google is kind enough to give me a PR6, i will thank the directory submissions for it. I would advise everybody who thinks directory submission is pointless and time consuming to give it a go. If you dont have time or the effort to do it, pay someone else to do it. Now i just have to hope google gives me that PR6, i could always try for a PR7 if google isnt as generous Mike
I agree you have to submit site to some directories. Not all directories help site. Some have redirections so i only submit sites myself so i know site is not using a redirection.
Great post .. Well callen has come up with a right tool for this .. may be it will help a lot out there . ~G
Thanks for the information. This let's me know that I'm not wasting my time and money with directory submissions ^_^
Thanks for the feedback! glad the info was of use to you. Its worth paying $40 or so for a few hundred submissions, if you dont have the several hours it takes. Mike
But isnt getting too many back links too fast a bad idea? How long of a time period did it take to get the directory inclusions?
Iwebtool pagerank prediction is not very accurate, my site was predicted even pr6 a few times but it stayed pr4. As far as to many links to quick goes I wouldnt worry about it. Most of directories take quite some time to approve the links, they do not all approve them at the same time and even then in takes time for google to crawl those pages your link is on, so the time extends quite a bit.
Submissions were done in 24 hours. I think at least 100 were approved, and weeks after i bought the service, i still get emails saying they were submitted. Mike
While directory submissions are good they could be very annoying. We are lucky there are quite a few guys here offering submission services at fair price.
In my opinion directory submission do not help you alot, but organic linking to your site will be a plus.
I think directory submission is important because it can boost PR and traffic. Higher PR is associated with greater importance.
If anyone is interested I can make discounts for the link from my sig. Edit: I hope I can write this here, if I am not allowed please let me know and I should edit my post.
I think you are a newbie First of all Iwebtools Google Prediction is not accurate because it is simply based upon the no of links in MSN or yahoo Also I checked your site in Yahoo it is Click here It has only 5000 links And my site is PR4 has more than 15000 links To get PR6 you need to be like this site www.alivedirectory.com It has more than 400,000 back links All the sites that are PR6 has mor ethan 100,000 backlinks So do not rely on iwebtool and feel heart broken next time when Google updates PR use this http://www.services-seo.net/pagerank-calculator/index.php?do=1 This is a better tool than iwebtools
no, i think you're wrong. How many times do you see word cloud sites with PR6. They have about 10 backlinks. Usually 2 PR7 links will give them a PR6. I could buy sitewide links on a 60,000 PR1 site, or i could buy 10 PR6 links, and get a PR6. I dont want to get into this argument, the only people who can tell us who is right is google employees who fully understand the algorithm.
I have to agree with the last two posts. One back link can give a PR4 which essentially means you earning PR3 in a few weeks wasn't a huge accomplishment. Not to mention PR is utterly useless anyways
