Supplemental pages are those that have duplicate content. The only way to avoid pages being put into supplemental results is to have unique and original content on them. My site forum was exploited by hackers and they uploaded some php files that generated like 1000+ spam pages. I reinstalled the forums and blocked the forums directory using robots.txt so all the spam pages return 404 now . I even submitted the directory to be delisted using googles webmaster tools although it was denided. How can i remove the 1000 odd pages from supplemental results and how long does it usually take for them to be dropped?
Nitro, I removed all my supplemental pages almost 45 days ago and there are still 6 pages in supp. index. I removed those files, even the whole directory but they are still in the index. I'm using custom error messages - is this a problem? I'm redirecting all errors to my main page.
