From my analysis, google is giving credit to sites who use adwords. They are counting the bought links as if they were "legitimate" links. They take into account the sites that the adwords appear on and the adwords account user is getting credited for these links-as long as their account is funded of course. Then google wants all of you webmasters to "rat" on people buying links by giving them a "no follow" attribute. Every site in my industry that has taken over the top spots were NOWHERE in the the top 3 pages prior to March 7, 2007. Their backlink totals also tripled or quadrupled in that time period. I analyzed these sites for backlinks and found a HUGE percentage of their backlinks were from sites which had their adwords on them. There was NO other link connection besides the adword link.
you have very intresting theory but i dont think that adwords and search are related and do you have any proof for this?
Many of these 'backlinks' that you see will not stand up to the time test. Here today, gone tomorrow. They have little effect, if any, on true ranking.
but from what I see, these sites are big "big spenders" on PPC and have been for some time. So if they have had these campaigns running for some time, it would allow time for the links to propogate through the search engine system and as long as they keep these campaigns going, they benefit from those backlinks. Case in point: One site I zeroed in on using my analysis,is ranked #1 for a keyword but only has that search term in its anchor text backlinks for less than 3% of their backlinks but has the title of the search term in 25% of their backlink results. Do you follow what I'm saying? Again, I have been studying this for 2 months and this is what seems to be the best explanation I can come up with so far.
I agree that google is changing right now.. Well really they are alway changing. but adwords has nothing to do with ranking.
have input on this theory. Why would adwords not have any relevance? Is there a written rule that dictates this. Could this have been changed? I don't know-I think it is worth looking in to. Could the code have been changed or manipulated to now "count" as a legitimate link? I just don't know. Does anyone have a good insight into how the Adwords system works? It seems the rankings are mostly attributed to google and to a lesser degree, yahoo. Msn doesn't corollate the rankings that google does. Seems very strange that a site that is number 1 on google for a certain keyword isn't even in the top 10 pages in msn.
someone is grumpy because they lost their top spot...instead of spending your time griping....do some research to get an idea what update was done around that time. Most likely your site is heavily dependent on one seo technique that google recently devalued....
GuyFromChicago, We pretty much know that they tell us. But can safely say that most people would agree that there it isn't always the case that what is in Google's Webmaster Knowledge base is in fact what is in practice.
It's 85 - 90 and sunny in Chicago today. I can say it's cloudy and raining and in the 70's all I want but that doesn't change the facts. I've managed quite a bit in AdWords spend over the years and can say with 100% confidence, based on evidence from tests I've run, that using AdWords/Adsense has zero direct impact on the natural/organic results.
I have tens of thousands of active campaigns for hundreds of different sites. None of them receive any benefit (in terms of natural results) as a result of using AdWords. The OP is simply jumping to incorrect conclusions based on faulty/incomplete data. I love it when people dispute common knowledge.
