Is God Vain?

    I was told once that we are only on earth to workship God and do as he says.
    So i was thinking if God is so powerful and can do as he pleases why does he need us to pray for him? is he selfish? We have to do/not do what he tells us to otherwise there will be no heaven for use.
    So what's the point of being on this earth if we have to follow all sorts of rules just in order to be saved in the after life? what is the point of being born i the first place? Does God feel more powerful because he has all these people acting like robots for him?

    A) we don't pray for God, we pray to God
    B) you are asking the age old question "Why are we here?"
    C) think of it this way: What God really wants in relationship. I don't think God sits up in heaven and dictates every little thing we do. But I do know that if I needed to talk to God, he would be listening.

    I really think you have some good questions, and I think it is good for people to struggle with their faith. Why don't you ask God your questions and see what you come up with? :D

    God gave us freewill, so technically he doesnt 'make' us worship him
    or 'make' us do anything.

    Again you are referring to god, but not specifying which one. I can only guess that you meant the male and personal Abrahamic God and not Zeus of the Greek. You presented your questions based on a flawed pattern of reasoning.

    You assumed that:

    She exists;
    She is the only one creator;
    She is male (you refer to her as male and not female);
    She is so powerful;
    She has a paradise.

    You then went on to discuss the purpose of our creation.

    This is like accepting that pigs can fly, and then go on to talk about how fast they could fly.:p

    The rules as you call it are for your good.
    Search your heart and think or try to imagine, - everlasting life - free of charge, that automatically gives reason to worship.

    You don't need to pray for him but to him, you need to speak it out verbally or mentally, in tongues or clear words to have your prayer answered.

    Which God is it that you speak? There are many religions throughout the world and some share the same God and some don't. Religion in general is all about faith and faith is based on what you believe. Praying to a god is simply asking for guidance or help. You are putting your faith in something higher than yourself.

    Best advice is to find something that you can put your faith in and follow that. Maybe it will not be a religion at all but something like meditation which helps your inner self solve life's problems. If you feel something is too constraining or too judgmental than it will not bring you any joy or peace so find something that will.

    I believe there is only one God. My God is very clear about eternity. Let's hope for your sake I am wrong.

    Yes, only one god right? One god who out of his infinite wisdom created Earth, and Life, and all the little monkeys, rabbits, lions, bears, and man. Right? Then he makes an Adam and an Eve, to propagate through inbreeding - since the only way for there to be more men and women would be from their children - right? Mmmm Mmmm, God sure does love incest. And then what is this? He begins to wipe out entire populations! My my God certainly used to really give a damn about us humans who were "made in his image", playing with us, toying with us, asking one man to sacrifice his son, and then relenting, whilst also declaring wars on "Evil people". Wow, what a wonderful loving bastard that God must be.

    As he played and toyed with us, it seems he grew bored of our little pathetic whims of free will, so he wiped us all out except for an old man and his kids on a boat with five billion species of animals, golly gee wirlikers Andy, that sure does seem like a-lot. Well Barney, the lord works in mysterious ways. Isn't that right? Well, after he had fun drowning a few million people he got to watch some more of the ISC, or Incest Super Channel. Whippee! More Incest.

    Oh my, and now what? Egyptians appeared out of nowhere! Damn them now they have enslaved the Jews. Time to get Moses, a murderer, to lead his people! Granted the death of one is a tragedy, but to god the death of millions in a flood must be a statistic. Thanks Staligod. Oh my my, lets fast forward a bit now... he impregnates Mary, and I bet Josef felt kinda weird after that, and thus his son is born, the Messiah. Only one problem, apparently he had more than one, because another man was born, performed miracles, was crucified, and came back right before the one we know as Jesus. Well jee whizz, god musta been gettin' it on with the local chickadees.

    Now, God, who many of you believe in, is supposedly this great infinite power who controls the ENTIRE UNIVERSE, every atom, cell and speck everywhere - and yet (apparently, no wait, according to the zealots, factually) he likes to mess with us. We're his version of the Sims, except we don't have the nudity shield and he can do whatever he pleases with us, despite "free will" (a cop out, considering he's killed millions so far - I am sure the dead didn't will themselves to be dead. Ooops, god made a booboo). Perhaps it is time to consider the alternate. Man made god in his image. Man first made the gods of weather, rain, thunder, lightning. Then he made the gods of sun, moon, and other things (rivers, food, wine, sex, earth), and finally a few came along with the idea of One god. They won. Woohoo... Thanks... millions dead... wonderful.

    So if there is a god, you must then see that he's a sadist. If you, like I do, do not think there is a "God" defined by religions today, then you see everything for what it really is. It's man's fault.

    The so called God was supposed to be perfect (at least we were taught that). Having a negative side makes god NOT PERFECT.

    I'm a christian, and I believe that there is GOD, but there was a time that I too ask those questions, lots of questions like if there is really a GOD why lots of people suffer, murdered, and starve. I think our life is a test, like a game that you should play and you are incharge to what kind of play you are going to use. Either honest or tricky, it will depend on you.

    You would think that the monotheist religions have the same god. Think again!

    Yahweh is the Jewish god;
    Abba (Father) is the Christian God;
    Allah is the Muslim god;

    Yahweh is not Abba, Abba is not Allah, Yahweh is not Allah.

    When religious people talk about god they mean their own god.

    For instance when the Jews talk about god they mean Yahweh with its attributes and qualities as described in their holy books. Even though Allah may share certain attributes with Yahweh, they are not the same.

    Another example Ishvara is the only one god in Hinduism. To the hindus, he is the supreme lord of all deities. I doubt that Muslims will accept that Ishvara is Allah even if both share similar attributes of a ”god” , the concept is not the same.

    Just to confirm what I said, ask the Christian believers in this forum, if they think of Allah (in Islamic concept) when they refer to god?
