Funny thing is I NEVER wore one until I met my now husband. He insisted on it and I always felt strangled. Now I cannot drive without one, I feel naked and like I'm bouncing around in the car with nothing to hold me down.

For those that do not wear one, remember YOU are RISKING your life. It is a cold hard fact that wearing a seat belt may be the one thing that saves you from death or serious injury.

I've been in a few accidents without a seat belt and well they are not pleasant at all. Been in a couple with seat belts and the experience involved alot less blood and pain! No the accidents were not my fault either.

And about the short trips. Does anyone knows the newest statitics on how many people get in an accident and are seriously injured or die with a 1/4 mile of their home. The number used to be very big.

Think about it. The odds are so much higher you will get into an accident on your street or in your neighborhood because that is where you drive the most.

When I was in high school a group of kids were going home after a night of partying and they all died less than 30 seconds away from the street they lived on!!

Oh and just about a month or so ago a couple hit the tree across the street from their house and died right there. Can you imagine? I never heard what happened, my guess is he didn't realize he was at his house until it was too late and maybe looked away from the road for a second. (I'm sure drinking was involved)

Why would anyone NOT wear a seat belt?!?!

    http://www.jmu.edu/safetyplan/vehicle/generaldriver/safetybelt.shtml

They don't cost anything, take seconds to clunk-click and are proven to save lives and reduce serious injury. You need your head examining if you choose not to wear one!

Not only would I always wear one when driving but I won't start driving unless all the passengers are also belted-up. It used to be the case in the UK that the driver was responsible and fined if their passengers weren't wearing a seat belt but I think someone mentioned recently that the fine is now given directly to any adult not wearing the seat belt.

Every person should wear a seat belt,a helmet, a fireproof suit, a face mask, mittens, safety shoes, oxygen mask, ear plugs and a welding mask when driving. We need all the protection we can get from all the millions of idiots that got their driver's license out of corn flakes packets :D

    Col :)

For safety precaution, I always use seatbelt. :) And it is a traffic violation in our country for not wearing seatbelt.

    Always...
You never know when a crash is going to happen.
And I quite frankly don't feel like shooting through the windscreen.
Since I'm not Wolverine ...I can't be so careless :p

It's never comfortable, but I will always wear one
after knowing people die from not wearing them, it is a moral obligation for me. I've always worn one since I was little, so I'm used to it too.
