If I buy one of their servers, how easy is it to set up. I plan to resell hosting planns. Also if the control panel easy to use and do I need to know programming? Thanks.

no you don't really need to know programing but it would help, you do however need to know how to use linux.

layeredtech are a great place to buy unmanged servers from.

You don't need to know programming, but you should know system administration or be prepared to pay for someone to admin, secure and keep your server up to date.

    Super service?
1 hour 47 minutes I waited on their "24-7" support just yesterday.

They told me last week that they'd automatically cancel my old server if I set up my new one (On the phone - someone helped me). Granted he was very friendly on the phone, next week I got an invoice saying that they're taking BOTH servers offline because the old one wasn't paid for. And that I'd need to pay for both that month, regardless of what their rep on the phone said.

LT are fine, but if you have problems you're screwed.
If you're unlucky, you'll get stuck with someone who rushes through you without helping you. But hey, maybe you'll get lucky and he can even speak English.

Having said that, LT still (sadly) are the best I can find.

You shouldn't need to know any programming but you will probably need basic WHM skills.

If you need any help, PM me, and I'm available for hire with server management (part-time).

Make sure you get a control panel!

this is the best buy out of all of them:
    CPanel/WHM Fantastico [price: $25.00]

( I actually recommend you start with reseller hosting)

layered tech has a poor network , try theplanet.com / softlayer.com / rackspace.com / ev1servers.com for the most reliable servers . You might want to hire a sys admin to setup your server , optimization , securing server . Its not programming though

DONT go with LayeredTech. Worst servers!

    Go with ThePlanet or LiquidWeb
RackSpace are famous for 100% uptime servers.

Go with SoftLayer...they give you lots of bandwidth too. Make sure to get cPanel or you'll be lost if you're new to Linux.

I've used a lot of server services myself. Ones not mentioned here are iweb8.com, burst.net and 1&1. 1&1 unfortunately doesn't let you upgrade hardware and it really seems their support is outsourced to a call-center in India. I haven't had problems with my clients (yet) on Layered. For non-critical issues (anything but a reboot) as an experienced administrator who rarely needs help I would be happy with an hour+ response time as long as the issue was answered thoroughly.

Let me comment again about Layeredtech.

They offer a great service for the price - They are Definately not for someone who does not know how to admin a server. My worst response from them in over 18 months has been 23 minutes for a server reboot, and the best response for a reboot has been 6 minutes.

They provide good hardware, a reasonable network and all their guys know how to locate your server for a reboot. If you need hand-holding to run a server then look elsewhere and pay more.

LayeredTech gives you what you pay for. You pay cheap and get lot of crap!

Though, I must agree that support of LayeredTech and dediwebhost have BEEN best I've ever seen.

WORST ones are: FDC, ServerPronto and lots more I've tried.
