Currently I have godaddy in mind but are there any others who offer better price for .info (one year) than godaddy? Thanks p.s. They must have a free push option.
www.tierra.net for $0.88 and they do have free push (personally i would pay more at any registrar to get out of godaddy if i had names there) Old Story but always one of the good reasons to avoid GD : http://news.com.com/GoDaddy+pulls+security+site+after+MySpace+complaints/2100-1025_3-6153607.html Nice parts of the article : "Michael Froomkin, a law professor at the University of Miami who has written about domain name regulation, says this is the first time he's heard of a registrar abruptly taking a customer offline without a court order." "When asked if GoDaddy would remove the registration for a news site like CNET News.com, if a reader posted illegal information in a discussion forum and editors could not be immediately reached over a holiday, Jones replied: "I don't know...It's a case-by-case basis.""
It's not worth saving a few pennies at a risk of possibly confronting another registerfly. Go with Godaddy.
Go with Godaddy. Reputable. They may not be the cheapest, but you won't have problems with your domain later on
GoDaddy is big, is popular but doesn't mean he's good and that you will never have problems later Cheap registrars or generally small registrars are better for me, you can contact them easier, sometimes you can speak with the owner, serious problems can be solved and not loose your domain because GoDaddy doesn't likes it (as they said before it's case by case basis) I feel a lot safer away from GoDaddy, his growth allowed to bend the rules or create his own. I don't know how far they will go but i will not be inside his boat. Afterall even huge popular boats sink, did someone said Titanic ?
I am with namecheap.com. Had no problems with them. Why are you referring to GoDaddy as "he" and "his"?
GoDaddy is not going anywhere. I'm sure they wouldn't be spending a few million on SuperBowl commercials if they had financial troubles or even a hint of it. Don't do anything AGAINST the law and you won't have to worry about GoDaddy doing anything to you - if that's what the one complaint about GoDaddy is. I use to go around to different registrars using whatever deals I've come across. Sure, there's one or two smaller ones I use and will continue using...but the bulk of my names are at GoDaddy. About customer service...yes, smaller registrars mean easier to talk to them on a personal basis. However, what if they need to be away from their computer? An emergency? A vacation? Most these smaller registrars are not full time jobs. GoDaddy has customer support there for you.
GD was successful because he risked the millions he didn't have, that's why he's now at 1st place. Parsons is known for the risks he took. So far most of them turned to be fine for him but consider this, a fairly new registrar (compared with other dinosaur registrars like enom, tucows....) pop up and with various promo tricks manage and gets 19.949% with enom 2nd with 8.573% and netsol with 7.947%. Do you think the other companies don't have money to overcome GD? Do you think because he took most of the newbies and end-users is more reliable and reputable than the others ? I don't know if it's going somewhere or not but i wouldn't go anywhere near GoDaddy with my names And who's is going to decide what is legal and what is not ? GoDaddy ? Because if he has so huge power then why we need the law ? Did you see what the law professor said "this is the first time he's heard of a registrar abruptly taking a customer offline without a court order" Can they do it. Ofcourse GoDaddy can because he has so many regulations at his Terms of Operation guidelines you agree when you join that he can do whatever he wants. For example did someone accused you for spam, boom your site gone. Do you know how easy is to forge the email signature and report your site as spammer? The funny part is that i agree GD has the right to run his business as he thinks best but i would say it's fair if he said to you, i received a spam complaign i don't want to have your domain name anymore to my service, transfer it somewhere else. Instead he blocks the name, bury it at his parking service, takes the money from the clicks of your traffic and never be able to take it back The other sad part is that people go blind without reading the TOS GoDaddy has one of the worst TOS you can find, it gives few to literally none priviledges to users, taking all the power for himself. If you blink your name's gone. People go like sheep whispering GoDaaadyyyy, GoDaadddy without research for their selections That's why i say that there safer and much better options for your domains. If ANYTHING happens you can't argue with GoDaddy Good for you, everyone has to the right to make his own choices based on the facts he reads and experience. I agree GD has a customer support there for me but is it really working For every 10 people there one is the clever and the rest known less than you and me ... for their own system You send a support ticket and you get in minutes an email with the id of your support request together with a note that they will reply in 24H max They do reply in 24H with another message that the support request was difficult and they forwarded to their "advanced" support dept. So after 3 days average you get your reply I sent once an email to check my email at tdnam because i finalized a sale for a domain and after this step you can't see or alter the email of the domain I sent them about 8 emails to understand that i don't want to change my account's email, that the domain was entered the sale process, that can't be changed from the edit function... and so on. I explained them it can't be done to their system explaining how their system works, they forwarded the email to their "advanced" support dept and finally i found someone who could understand what i said If this the support you're mentioning then 1000s times better with a smaller registrar
Good registrar, i talked with his owner few times Now they use both their enom reseller account and their accreditation from ICANN Because when we talked about GoDaddy one name pops up Mr. old and bold Bob Parsons
Good job attacking me. I don't work for GoDaddy, I just enjoy their services...and that's what this post was asking for. Opinions from others. If you want to use my post to challenge what I said, that's cool and welcome. But don't attack me like you did above. I was just stating my opinion for the guy who asked.
I was not attacking you personally. You said you like GoDaddy and i said "Good for you, everyone has to the right to make his own choices based on the facts he reads and experience" this was a direct reply to you which i don't think it was so hostile. If by quoting the reply of each member we attac personally to this member then this would be a war zone and not a board
Zerosleep i didn't mention the "Avoid GoDaddy" because of his price only but for the general instability and the dominance abusive power and many times unfair rules he runs his business. I'm just bored how this business turned to be a lolipop and how many people suggest Daddy to Go without researching the whole issue Everybody says "my domains are ok, i didn't get any problems while i was there, so it's OK". Fair thinking but i don't know how they disregard issues like the one above. It's the syndrome "it will not happen to me" , he was the illegal, i'm not so everyting's fine. Did you read the replies of GoDaddy's representative to cnet's question ? "if a reader posted illegal information in a discussion forum and editors could not be immediately reached over a holiday, Jones replied: "I don't know...It's a case-by-case basis."" He doesn't know ? So they do consider to take down and freeze your domain if someone else post something illegal to your blog for example I'm happy that digitalpoint.com is hosted under omnis.com registrar because GD may find these comments not helping their marketing strategy and take down the whole forum
