Google lying about results?

I heard from a smart friend of mine that google actually lies about their results. I mean, who would click the next button 12 million times in hope of reaching the end? Google could just find 1000 pages and add 2, 000, 000 onto it.

Could this be possible or is it regulated etc.?

There are a lot of indexed pages so I don't think Google lies.

    This is true

Sorry, Google does not serve more than 1000 results for any query. (You asked for results starting from 20000.)

But can you blame them for doing this.

It does lie to a certain extent.

Search for the word/letter (if ur gonna be picky!)

    Then search again.

    The results change each time.

...hold on, they used to: but its not anymore!! - maybe theyve fixed it?

I think is not fair to say Google is lying. Its just that they are the biggest search engine and frequently update there site.

Suppose if you search for the word "freewebspace "

It would say there are about 1-50,000 pages for freewebspace

that means the pages containing the word freewebspace are about 50,000

    it also includes supplemental results

but if a page has same 10 words it will show up in the results 10 times?????

Does it really matter how many they say there is in total? They only show the first 1000.. and come on... how many folks go that far?

86% of all users never go past the first 3 pages..... sooooooo....

So once again... lie or not... who fishing cares?

LOL. Remember, the page does not have to revolve around the keyword. Even if it appears once on a page even though the page is not about that particluar keyword, Google will still index it.

I imagine it to be an impossible task. And they attempt to to the best they can. So long as it suits their desired outcome.

    You'd be surprised.

It depends on the subject matter.

For a word like 'babes' you'd be surprised just how far down people will dig.

I think google try to save the overall bandwidth and time. They might thin nobody will search for more than 1000 pages. XD In their database might really have 2 mils site result but they just dont want to show them all since the later one have less or least relevant to your keywords. ^^
