It may have been asked before, I just didn't know what to search for. Sorry for the same keywords, my website was ranking around 20-25 for about 5 weeks, then I started working on backlinks. Now, in the last 2 weeks, it keeps ranking better everyday, and it reached the 6th rank today. My question; PR is updating daily but only updated to the public every 3 months or so. So Google knows my ''secret PR'' that I will get in the next update. Is the SERPS based on that PR or on the PR I got last update(PR0)? (forgive my poor vocabulary.. and yea I know the SERPS arn't really based on PR, but IMO PR do influence the SERPS)
Page Rank basically has nothing to do with your ranking in SERPS. You can get more information about the ranking factors by visiting Google.
PageRank is one of the factors that used to determine SERP: Source: http://www.google.com/technology/index.html Back to the question, Google uses the actual PR for SERP listing
What do you recommend. We do weekly press submissions online through varying distributors like prweb and prleap. Right now we do not have these listed on our site, meaning linking back to the online releases. How much would this help and is there any potential it could cause and negative ranking as most releases link back to our main site? Does anyone have any experiance with this and the results?
Backlinks won't hurt your ranking unless they come from bad neighborhoods (links farms, spammy sites, banned sites, etc.). You actually will get greater results if you DON'T link to the press releases. A one-way link is always better for your rank.
Yes! What could be clearer?!! It amazes me, despite this clear statement by Google, that so many DP posters post again and again that PR does not affect SERPs. It is a factor in SERPs. Not the only factor, but definitely a factor.
PR is just a number Serps isn't influence by PR (but if you get good rankings you can have good pr but not having a good pr you mean you will have good rankings)
I remain dumbfounded! How can people continue to believe that? Let's read Google's quote again from the earlier post: "Quote [from Google website]: ... So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search..." PageRank is part of the algorithm that determines the search results. SERPs are influenced by PageRank.
Because you have some very stupid people using the following logic: I see a PR4 page outranking a PR6 page for a specific term, therefore that proves that PR is meaningless. Doesn't matter how well you explain it to them, they still refuse to understand it. Hell, they get downright defensive when you try and show them the flaw in their logic. -Michael
That makes absolutely no sense. If this was true, then I could go spam competitor sites on link farms, and in your theory take them down below my rank. I would argue, and try to teach the pagerank thing, but people will never understand.
yes then i can link all my competitor sites to spam and banned sites and get on top, rather then making backlinks for my site
/double sigh/ The "PR does not affect SERPs" chant so often repeated on DP reminds me of the old saying, "Don't confuse me with the facts." And the fact that Google declares that PR does affect Google's search engine results seems to be irrelevant to those who have memorized the chant.
