can someone explain in detail what deep links (in the context of directories) mean? so many people mention it but i don't seem to find a post explaining what it is about...
deep links is nothing but the links from your sites inner pages example A normal link:www.mysite.com A deep link:www.mysite.com/submit.php Many of the directories would accept only the link of a website but some websites accept deep links
Hi daboss, also there is some very good info regarding what deeplinks are at this thread http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=322424 i had started it after being confused myself, it really helped me as various users started to explain things better.
And the benefits of deep links are not to be overlooked because to get those inner pages indexed, becomes very important when you are wanting to promote inner pages, and with deep review options you get that option which will get exposure for the deep reviewed page or pages
Deep links help in getting your inner pages getting indexed and gaining Google PR www.domain.com - deep links www.domain.com/1.php , www.domain.com/2.php etc..
in theory I have been submitting the Shopping category since November on a directories with "deep link" and still has no PR. I don't think it works...don't know.
Whats a Deep Link..... You will notice on many Directory Submission Pages That Extra fields are now available by clicking either the Featured or Regular submission and they will appear depending on the number of deep links that were arranged for that specific directory... so you add the info like this.... *Title: Whatevers Home Page *URL: http://www.whatever.com *Description: Blah blah blah blah NOW after that you will see... Inner Page Title 1: Your inner page "anchor text" goes here Inner Page URL 1: http://www.whatever.com/home_and_garden/ Inner Page Description 1: <---NOTE: Most NOT Available Inner Page Title 2: Your inner page "anchor text" goes here Inner Page URL 2 http://www.whatever.com/Fruits_and_Trees/ Inner Page Description 2: <---NOTE: Most NOT Available and it continues depending on how many are available.... Good example of someone that used it to perfection... Personals and Matchmaking Services Guide NOW thiers nothing that says you cant use the "same domain" in those fields and change the "anchors" and just change the anchor Tags ... this may help get you get better results for anchor terms used Inner Page Title 1: Home and Garden Specialties Inner Page URL 1: http://www.whatever.com Inner Page Description 1: <---Description about that page Inner Page Title 2: Garden Masters of Cambridge Inner Page URL 2 http://www.whatever.com Inner Page Description 2: <---Different Description about same page And its a simple as that....YES DEEP LINKS DO HELP...BIG TIME! thx malcolm
hmmm well that may play a factor but how much it does is unknown to me I can tell you that ive submitted a good many times with deep links and ive been able to get #1 for the terms i used and results in the 100,000,000 with rather easy results and very few times deep link was used thats why i say that they do matter and the more you use them the better your site will do in the serps....but to each his own i suppose thx malcolm
ah... ok! thanks for the explanation... so it's basically a feature to a directory that allows the submitter to specify more links which are sub-pages to the main site?
Yes its an added feature that enhances inner pages as well a very helpful tool in getting those inner pages found by the engines and can produce significant results... thx malcolm
Deep links really help you when your site has a lot of content and when the Big G gets you a little caught up and you can escape from getting under the scanner for getting too many backlinks for your index page. It can help in moving the sub pages from the index and can also help you in increasing traffic to sub pages and help you rank for multiple keywords..
Hello... Just bringing this thread back up for some that may not know how deep links work... thx malcolm
Just a short excerpt of a blog article i wrote awhile back: "The potential link partners to your website easily outnumber the number of links to your home page can accommodate. In such a scene, one option before you can be to let them go and alternatively you can link them to the inside web pages. The latter is termed as “Deep linkingâ€. To define, Deep Links are just like any ordinary URL, which point at Web Page(s) other than the home page or main page of the other website. The web page(s) linked to can be a photograph, a video or a full text of a journal article or a book online et al." Can refer to my 'recent blog post' to go to the blog for the rest of the article if you think its useful. Its in SEO201, Chap 5
My bidding directory shows a good example of deeplinks on its homepage. FoSee - Bid for Position Directory On the homepage you can see the large title for each submitter which has a link to the their websites main homepage. To the right you will see deeplink 1, 2, and 3. Mousing over the deeplink will highlight it in red and at the bottom of your browser you will see which page on the submitters site has been deeplinked. Like Malcolm has stated, you enter the deeplinks URL and a TITLE for the deeplinks just like with regular links. This gives links to your inner pages as well as your homepage. The title allows you to select the anchor text your deep link url's will have, similar to regular links. Scott.
