    SEO could be ethical.
In fact, if you have a HIGH QUALITY website, then you OUGHT to do SEO. Hey, Google encourages website to do (some types) of SEO.

Good SEO is to do what you can to help people find the most relevant page on your site for their query in the search results. If your site is completely unoptimized - you're making it impossible for people to find relevant information that is on your site, but isn't properly processed by search engines.

    That's a real good statement!

ALL can be done in a good or a bad way - is nuclear power good or bad? OK, I think it's bad anyway, because of the radiation and the waste and the danger of nuclear plants, but lets see the intention, you can use nuclear power to destroy (bomb) or to generate energy.

The same is true for SEO, you can use SEO to help others find your site, or you can use it in a bad way that gives not benefits to others but confusion, because when people search for something, they have to wade through masses of crap and have a hard time to find something good.
    Hehe, maybe I exaggerated a bit. :D

I don't really see how SEO could be ethical or unethical...it's just a marketing category...

What kind of poll is this? SEO is very broad if the SEO world you are talking... But when you specify.. then you will elaborate whether it is ethical practice or not?
