Backlinks from high PR sites will improve you SERP than links from PR0-3-uniques-daily-no-backlinks sites.

    1. SERP or search engine results page the page of site listings that a search engine returns in response to a user's entry of a search query.
2.Title, Content, backlinks, anchor text and etc.
    3. Number of quality links and the relevancy of anchor text effects SERP.
    4. PR has no connection with SERP.

Actually, your question should be, "How to optimize a website?".

Well, some people who think PR has absolutely NOTHING to do with the SERP are a little too extreme.

I wouldn't go that far there. If you play in the SERP, you need to know why G still uses PR ;) You can't just bite the part you want.

I believe PR factor influences on the SERP, but since SEO pretty much messed up the original intention of PR, G is made things more complicated. It's very difficult for us to know how exactly things are calculated.

If there are two eaualy quality backlinks available, one from high PR, the other from low PR, I bet no one will pick the one from low PR ;)

I think what we need to focus on is not about how exactly G is using PR as a ranking factor in the SERP, but how important this ranking factor is. Obviously it's not so important as it used to be. Quality backlinks are probably the most important as you already know.

My opinion on it is this...

PR does not directly influence your SERPs, however, I believe they go hand in hand with each other.

PR is determined by the number and PR of backlinks pointing to your site. Its been stated already in this thread, and all over the net that backlinks and appropriate anchor text on those links affect SERPs.

So essentially, if you are building backlinks, regardless of the anchor text you will eventually get PR, if you decide to be smart and throw in the anchor text for the keywords you would like to rank for in your backlinks, that will influence your SERPs. So again, PR doesnt directly influence SERPs but there is some correlation in my opinion....

Oh, and things to help SERPs - Backlinks with appropriate Anchor Text, Title Tags, Meta Tags(Outdated but helpful), Formatting Tags(H1, h2, bold, italic) and of course, nothing can beat good old fashioned unique content...

I think it is likely that some of the same factors that enhance SERPs also enhance Page Rank and this can give the false impression that PR is affecting SERP.

If you do a search on any keyword or phrase and examine the PR of the top 20 sites listed (do this for several different queries) you will quickly see that there is no correlation to PR value and result position.

Here is an example. Search spongebob:
Number 1 site is "No Pagerank Information Available" grey bar
    #2 through #20 is; 5,6,5,4,6,5,6,2,4,4,4,5,4,0,6,5,4,3,4
    What? a PR6 in Spot #16 right after a PR0? Yep.

I have found the most important things in helping me in SERPs are title, matching h1 content and domain name which should all be related to each other with the keyword.

    So...

    Domain: www.coolkeyword.com

    Page Title: "Cool keyword stuff"

h1 tag: "Cool keyword stuff to know about"
    -------

Its obvious to SE's that the site is related to the search term "cool keyword"

At least thats what works for me but I'm far from being an expert, just my 2 cents :D

This is true! Very true! BUT... how Google knows if:

1 - someone introduced a dumb text with keywords or
2 - someone introduced a highly relevant text which, of course, contains keywords

    Also...

...how Google knows if my site's content is relevant or not for my site's niche?
