is it broken, then i can't help,
other wise, if there are some bad sectors, i can block them, and make it working again!
i have a 40 gb harddisk with 8 gb of bad sectors blocked in almost 12 parts!!;) i still run it, and it is working!

use linux, windows don't detect these!
you can try the dos, boot your computer with another harddisk and get to dos, then use this broken hdd as secondary slave! and then try detecting it,
    use the fdisk,

it is not all that easy, but then if the bad sectors are blocked then it will sure work,

you can't open the hdd, but then perhaps opening the usb case is not all that a bad idea!

Thats tough, but what exactly do you mean by 'destroyed'. Did she beat the HDD to death or she destoryed the data in it? (the data can be recovered, btw)

Why not take the drive to a computer tech and have them retrieve your data? These guys are amazing. They can recover most things.

Then just go buy another drive.

That's the logic reaction if you put your "mouse" on the floor: take the broom and BAM! woohooo!. ;) .
But it's not logic with a hard disk. Sorry :(

Now that your hard disc is destroyed, you must try to look out for a source which can help you in saving your hard disc data. Also dont keep any grudge over your mom. Just forgive and forget about the whole issue.
