Would anyone care to post an example of a press release they did?
    (on the press release site)
I would love to see an example, especially one that you feel helped you.

Press Release DO work in getting backlinks, getting the word out and increasing the professionalism of your directory.

    http://www.prweb.com/releases/2006/07/prweb413739.htm

That is a copy of Bloggeries original press release. I'm drafting another but waiting for a few more tools or maybe to do it exactly 1 year later.

Yes, they work. And yes, they work for directories. If they're not working for your directory, your directory has nothing special to offer, your press release sucks, or you're not doing your part to get it in front of the right people.

Directories are just like any other site when it comes to press releases... you have to do something different if you want exposure and the links and traffic that naturally come with that.

As for that list of sites... forget about most of them. Choose 1 - 5 of the better ones if you really want to stick with just online distribution (which you should really be using more as a supplement and not a full distribution strategy to begin with). The better ones will get you picked up by bloggers and some niche outlets, and get you into news engines. Wasting time on further submissions offers very little added benefit in the long run... and certainly not enough to offer the best ROI. Remember... send a newsworthy, well-written press release to the right people, and that's where the highest quality, most relevant, permanent backlinks will end up coming from. It's a nice trickle down effect if you do it right, and it gets in the hands of people who can reach your target market with authority far better than you can independently.

I'm a PR professional, so I write a lot of releases. Unlike others, I only write them if I think you actually have something newsworthy to say though... not all directories will. I also own two directories, and one was the first of its kind. Doing a press release for it helped a good bit early on (and that was without spending a cent on its distribution... led to a good portion of those first thousand link submissions).

While it won't teach you everything about press release writing, I have a free template and some tips here: press releases

Normal rates are $99. There's a half price special if you don't mind waiting until next week for it... only two spots left currently. You can find out more from the link at my sig, or you can look at a few samples at the portfolio link at www.jhmattern.com. I've written them for a few directories through now: Aviva, Alive, Forplex Business Directory, and probably around 5 or 6 others.

Serg, you need have no reservations in using Jenn's services because they are excellent and always to a fixed timeline, and more important the PR are compiled in a text format that is user friendly for PR distributors

Folks go on and on about subjects they have little or no knowledge about saying they dont work, they do this, they do that, what do they expect if they write PR themselves

It gets tiresome posting comments when the 'experts' say outright they don't work this forum is top heavy with 'dumbass' experts who know little about anything, but all about everything :)

I use a top phpLD template designer aspidov because they are in one word professional

Thats why we use Jenn as our PR writer because she is a professional too

As usual, I agree with Jenn. :)

Your press releases must be interesting and provide something useful/interesting, otherwise it will be ignored. It must pass the old WIFM test.
