Has anyone had any success with YouTube Marketing? More and more marketers are using it as a great marketing tool.

I am aware, however that this works well with Affiliate products. I don't really like the blackhat techniques most people will use in order to get lots of visitors to their site.

    Anyone got any feedback?

    Thanks!

It depends on your niche. If you create a really funny video and people love it, it'll spread through word of mouth: in addition, if you have a site to go with the video -> that'll drive a lot of traffic to your site.

For products, you have to be very innovative because people don't go on youtube to look for commercials..

I think your niche has to be really broad to be successful with YouTube traffic .... A niche like "Search Engine Optimization" might not bring results like a niche like "Funny Ads" ....

I've seen advertisements from major corps and such... but about commercials that are super funny that people would watch? Those are still up there? I guess it depends :)

if you have a good innovative idea also some kind of video making or commercials ads skills, you tube can be your great traffic generator. problem is most people think making video ads is troublesome and cost a lots. but if you really can make one short and good one, sure you can get traffic from youtube.

Yes, but price is not a problem at all for large companies and they DO do this... they get more in return most of the time ;)

I think when it comes to marketing / generating traffic with videos, you need to create something with a buzz .. which encourage people to share the videos. I read Buzzmarketing (the book) and it really open up my mind to "buzz"

Video can work .. but think Buzz first, and then create the video .. and mention a little of your website in it.

My site features cartoons with some funny animal characters, so marketing on sites like youtube, grouper, funnyordie, etc, was a natural fit, I have uploaded videos to a lot of video sites and they have been seen about 30000 times combined on all the sites in a month or so.

Now, I have not gotten a lot of traffic from those, but the traffic I get is highly targeted, I get about 30 pageviews from people that come from those sites, and it´s also very good for branding.

The videos cannot be just for promotion, they have to entertain or inform people at the same time.

I tend to agree with some of the others that YouTube marketing is affective based on your niche. For example, if you had a niche focusing on animals (cats, dogs, etc.), then you might do well. It just depends on what you are trying to promote...

    Well said!

Marketers are using youtube by exploiting the visitors tehy attract. It is not what Youtube was desigend for and it degrades the "fun and Entertaining" element that attracts visitors to youtube in the first place.

If you really wan't to explore video marketing consider creating an internet infomercial. Infomercials are by far much better at converting viewers to customers compares funny commercial.

There are services springing up (see my sig for one example) that you can use to get your infomercial aired for free.

So in summary a niche is good for attracting traffic, but it would be gard to do anything but a branding exercise using Youtube. Explicitly selling something (which is what you ultimately want to do) will get you video banned from social sites like YouTube as you're basically spamming their content.

I've been doing pretty well. The really good days are over, but I still make good money from YT. My best month was in mid 2006, I made near $6k. But I'm not even near those numbers anymore.
