Pointing backlinks to URL

    Hello,
I would like to ask a question about pointing backlinks to an URL.
I have an URL english1.info which redirects (301 permanent) to my site english.bizhat.com .
Should I try to get backlinks to my .info domain, or should they point to the oringinal url (the free hosting site)?
    What would be the difference?

    Thanks,

    Luke

get the backlinks to the real site - it just doesn't make any sense to do it the other way imho. Google and other seach engines count the backlinks to the site and it's the final destination you want to have the PR and serps for right?

To me it makes no difference which url gets ranked.
I'm wondering which would be easier.
My .info urls are more search engine friendly:
    learn.english1.info
    language.english1.info
    course.english1.info
    etc
My original, free url is english.bizhat.com which has a useless 'bizhat' in it, and the other keywords will appear in sub folders like english.bizhat.com/learn-english.html, instead of the mail url as in the three above.
    So which is better:
    learn.english1.info or english.bizhat.com/learn-english.html ?

And would I lose points for the fact that it's a 301 permenent redirect?

Get the backlinks to point to english1.info. Since you own english1.info your backlinks will always point to a domain that you own. In future if you choose to get paid hosting or change your host you won't loose the benefit of your backlinks.

BTW why don't you use your own domain with free hosting? Many free hosts allow you to do that. yurx.com and frihost.com are examples of such free hosts. You can probably find lots more in the hosting section of this forum and at other webmaster forums.

    That makes sense, yes.
    And for search engine friendliness?

I can't quite understand what you mean regarding free hosting. My site is already with free hosting.

I'd say have the backlinks point to your .info site and then work on getting your actual site to reside at that location.

    As joshbond points out:
To do that you will need to have hosting that allows you to use your own domain. IF your current host does that then great. Otherwise you will have to change hosting.

edit: Oh yes about SEO, AFAIK 301 redirects pass page rank and all the benefits of backlinks to the site you're redirecting to.

Do you mean a free host where you can set up the DNS?
If that's possible with those urls you mentioned, I'm going there right now!

    Thanks,

    Luke

in my opinion, using english1.info and getting link for this domain is give you better results. as you say, subdomains on a free hosting site is useless for seo

Well ya, if you can use the info domains use them and point the links to them - I have a couple of domains on free hosting accounts - I just figured you didn't want the info domains or you would be using them.

makes sense to get the backlinks to the domain you actually own. the free host may shut down or kick you off, then you have a bunch of wasted links pointing to a site that no longer exists which could be pointing to the domain you own.

you cant trust a free host to be permanently there for you.
