You can't register a domain that was already taken. At first few post you said it is a big deal that you can't. Then in your late post, you said you know you can't register a domain that was already taken. Email receipt doesn't guarantee 100% success as one of the DP members have already mentioned. "Something that people have been using the search engines for a lot lately," One of those people can be a domainer, and he/she could of thought of the same thing as well. Other possiblility has been mentioned by Your Content. I had similiar things happened to me, well not once, but probably about 3 or more times. When I was checking the domains, they were all available (yay happy), then after I completed the process, I received email receipt. A while later, I got email notification telling me some of the domains failed to register, and my money got refunded. Did I feel like I get screwed? No, not at all. I know there IS possiblities while I was going through the long process, someone else at the time WHILE I was in the middle of process, was registering the same domain as well. They finished their process than I, so they got the time and I lost it. You have to beat with time when a possible keywords are popular. Then again, you said HOW COULD IT BE POSSIBLE? Of course it could be, GoDaddy process takes a while to finish. While, let's take an example, NameCheap, NameCheap processes the domain while you waiting for your final page, and your final pages means your domain gets registered. While GoDaddy gets you the receipt, then have to register it. minstrel has already explained in details as well: Even though I think you might need to reread. Btw.. Your test is... dumb. The only thing you test proved is "you can't register an already registered domain" You just proved yourself wrong.
enough with the excuses. I just proved that it doesn't take a while. did u not see the test i did? so what's gonna be the next excuse?
so then the domain should be mine. I was able to complete the order process for the domain in question but not able to complete the process for when I did that test by trying to register shadydaddy? what's the difference? did the godaddy servers magically get faster in that time span to make sure people couldn't register already registered domains? maybe the godaddy employee can tell us.
Moderators: Could this thread please be retitled? Maybe something like, "Views from the shallow end of the gene pool"...
You have misunderstood. That is NOT even an excuse. Just REASONING. A LOT of us are helping yet you are just going to against all of us because we use LOGIC while you are just letting your angry and frustration taking over. (I hate to cap, but looks like I have to) GoDaddy process takes a while as in the process of placing the order & processing. Example: At 1:44 PM, you are checking a domain name @ GoDaddy (Yay it is available) At 1:44:10 PM, someone else (or maybe even more than 1 people) is/are checking the same domain name @ NameCheap (Yay happy) At 1:44:15 PM, they click on "Add To Cart in NameCheap" At 1:44:15 PM (Notice it is the SAME time), you at GoDaddy, have to click on "Continue" (oh now, no Add to Cart button). In NameCheap, you have choice to use Express Checkout. Which is 1 click, then choose payment (if they have fund there already) it makes it easier, so that is 2 click, enter password (or even faster if it is already saved in FF), 4th click Charge and Process (this is where they are on the process of registering the domains) 1,2,3 (typing a little), 4, 5 watching it processes. (~ 5 steps and you can see the processing) At GoDaddy, 1st click "Continue", then you see contact information, 2nd click "Continue", now you see how many years you want etc. Default is 2, normally people either register for 1, or 10. So now you have to pick year/auto or manual renew. Now scroll down (unless you have a really high monitor or super wide screen ) , Choose Quick Checkout, choose your payment, check 2x on the Terms, Now you get another few pages to go and a few more things to enter. If you use CC, you have to enter the numbers, if you use the Paypal filed on GoDaddy. Then you get to review the order, then you click on Check Out. But now, does that mean it is registered? No (at least I don't think so. As one of the member has said, you placed order does not guarantee your success. They have to send the data to the central registrar and process registering there) 1,2, 3 choose years/renew ways/scroll, 4 click Checkout, 5 check 2x terms, 6 enter payment information, renew, click Checkout (~ 6 steps/pages with more entering/picking information than the others) Oh and if you use the regular checkout option, you are going to see another extra page with offers then more "Continue" button to click! Just see how the GoDaddy process is longer than NameCheap. Oh and I think it was eNom that was mentioned. Now eNom is even more faster! Since all the payment information are pre entered and all page you have to go through is way less than GoDaddy. Ok, you might say "who cares how many pages are there, I am a super fast clicker" If so, then good for you! But still, any second of difference will result a loss of domain. And now, there is ALSO a chance, say the one at GoDaddy got registered first, then when the first person on Namecheap (on their 5th step) will receive an error message saying the domain has already registered, even though when they were checking the domains earlier said it is available. HOWEVER, it is just one of the possibilities. There are also chances, as others have mentioned in their experiences, hijack searching queries and others (feel free to read back) If you think you are in those exceptions, then feel free to call GoDaddy and get some lawyers or whatever action you feel like it is necessary to get that domain back. Oh yeah, don't call this excuse, I am just explaining the process and possibilities of your tragedy.
Maybe. And maybe they can ignore you, which is also their right. Well, good luck. But you won't be able to force Go Daddy to get that domain name.
naw minstrel hasn't ignored me. he has talked a lot in this thread but hasn't provided anything of substance. he ran out of excuses to make for his employer
In the name of all that's holy, "techblology"... you give "dumb as a stump" a bad name... Did you fix that spelling error on your site yet? Edit: No, I see you haven't. I bet you can't even find it.
well I contacted them and they gave me some lame excuse like the godaddy employee on this board, I even showed them the screenshots of my test and they gave some b.s. answer about how it takes time to update which is false cause I already proved that it doesn't so I'm just contemplating on what to do next.
Unbelievable. Seriously, techblo, how have you survived this long? Let me make a suggestion on "what to do next": talk to a lawyer, as you have been threatening to do, so he can help you with some reality checking stop buying domain names, since it is clear you don't have a clue how any of this works fix the spelling errors on your site get some help
Do you remember what time of the day you checked availability for the domain on godaddy, and the registration time?
yea my receipt shows the date and time and when I did the whois lookup it shows the domain was registered the same day that I did it. they say it takes time to update and check for availability but I already proved that thats not the case.
I would think that in the time you spent whining about this situation, you could have come up with a different domain, or a different idea, to blow the previous ones out of the water....
I was in the same situation but not with godaddy. Sometimes it happen that way. You register a domain, it looks it's free, but somebody registered it minutes before you. I know the feeling but I found another better domain after that. I hope you will find better one for you
maybe its not godaddy who screwes you over?!? someone might have heard of your idea, then took your plans... ;-)
No you didn't. You didn't prove a damn thing. Look, if you think you have a case, see a lawyer and take action. You'll be laughed out of court, if it gets that far, but knock yourself out. Just quit whining about it, for the love of god. Precisely. Everyone except techblology, who can't even spell his own site name correctly on his website, knows that.
Is this still going on?? Why argue about this? Just go and file a court case. There's no point in slanging it out with Minstrel. He's gonna win the argument because he's real good at that. Col
Not this again, just go to the lawyer and spend more time and effort on pursuing an argument that you will never win, instead of spending the same effort and money on developing a site with another domain.
