How do you determine how many 'unique visitors' you are getting?

Let's do this. I will be:

    Press Releasing
    Stumbling
    Digging
    Article Submitting
    Praying?

I launched a month and a half ago and had 625 uniques in April. Needless to say, I have some work to do :)

Your server should tell you how many uniques you have.

Ok today I'm going to write a few articles and submit to list of 200 article directories.

Then I'm going some myspace marketing by adding friends and listing on bulletin boards.

Also start an adwords campaign using long tail keywords

So for the past week I've been seeing ~500 uniques/day with about 5 new members a day too. I'm wondering if theres a way to increase membership enrollment? Anyone have any tried and true methods? I dont want to prevent guests from reading the content, btw.

You don't have to stop guests from viewing your primary content, but you can always offer "special" content for registered members. For example, I run a writers forum. While discussions are open for everyone to see, the marketplace (where they can advertise services and view writers markets) is set for members only. It's helped, without hurting basic discussion areas. Just find a special feature relevant to your niche (maybe free e-book downloads or something).

Ok my weekend up. Via Adbrite advertising campaign which I have been trying over the weekend, I have managed to bring another 1400 uniques in two days not enough to get 20'000 yet but I'm getting there.
