Amazon.com is a registered trademark and they want to protect it.
But you should be worried more about them suspending your associates account than getting sued.

I wouldn't risk it.. though they wouldn't care unless you made a splash / grew.. Amazon has made it fairly clear they'll protect their assets.

You really don't want to add the word amazon in your domain name. There is a similar case in court right now. Some wise dude has added the word google in a couple of domain names and he is getting his rear sued out of business.

Good question. It's a rainforest, isn't it? Amazon the online retailer don't allow any affiliated merchandise to be sold from unofficial sites with 'Amazon' in the URL.

If your website is about the Amazon and is not related to Amazon.com, you should be fine. Otherwise, you will probably hit some bumps.

He wants to put AMAZON products on a domain using the AMAZON name. That's a clear violation of trademark (not trademarket, which is where you buy and sell produce or something).

You would most likely get a cease and desist letter.

Really, and where did you get that?

Don't make stupid posts on something you clearly know nothing about.

Like I said earlier, the test in court is really the issue of 'intent'. If you use the word 'amazon' in your domain name in order to profit from the online store Amazon then you will hit a legal speed bump. However, if you refer a domain name like 'VisitAmazon.com' or 'AmazonianWomen.com' and talk about the place or the legend then I don't see anything that Amazon the store can do anything to you. Although the store uses 'Amazon' in the name, they do not own the Amazonian RainForest.

Of course if you include the word 'Amazon' in your domain name so as to set up an affiliate store selling from Amazon store then it would really be the wrong thing to do. Since this would be seen as trying to profit from a brand name.

Well, amazon itself is NOT a trademark. Its name of a river in south america. however amazon.com is. If your website is going to be in the same business as amazon.com, you are liable for prosecution, as you are cashing on their brandname, but otherwise you are not doing anything illegal.
