Thats a good news for directory owners.. But I have some questions and suggestions : 1 - What links/sites will be considered spammy ? Need to define criterias.. 2 - Need modification in PHPLD script on submit page regarding "review fee" 3 - Can we charge review fee every yearly ? 4 - Do anybody have good format of REJECTION notification mail ??
Thank you malcomb1 I think you are going to have some margin of error before you set off a flag. I think it is when you have a lot of low quality stuff that the value starts going down. I'm pretty sure google has some ways of scoring overall link quality. Those are good suggestions for phpLD, and we will be making some small changes hopefully in the next release so that more importance is placed on "reviews" versus other conventions.
Yes i agree with you on that... and wish to add that maintenance to delete dead links will probably be a MUST DO on the list as that will surely look like you just don't care enough about your directory and your wasting space and the spiders time, so i defiantly would suggest owners take a few minutes every2 weeks or once a month and do the validations that are done in the admin panel of Phpld but not sure about other scripts..
@an0n - lOl - I know that-- But my question is : As Matt said directories can charge Review fee.. Can we charge Review fee yearly ? I think yes, as we can review a site yearly to look at the changes the site might have gone in a long year - whether the site is still running, What's the site quality ? Had it changed to porn/gambling after 1 year Or we need to review it more often ? And charge a review fee everytime ?? Edit - just posted a long comment on MATTCutts blog - Will wait for response
You should really do your best to re-review your sites on a somewhat regular basis regardless, and not just yearly Owning a directory is not as easy as most would think. hehe
I know that and so I have created only one directory bqtm.com - its tough to maintain even the single one.. Dont know how Malcolm manages to do so with his 50 I guess he is blessed with some supernatural power.
Thanks for the info.. Yes he asked to report about them by clicking on"Ads by google" and filling up "what you think about this site" He is also against paid posting services like Payperpost, reviewme, Sponsoredreviews.. Now johnchow and shoemoney will be loosing $400 and $2500 per reviewme posts.
google dont want to lose in advertising market by saying yes to directory owners think of it if google say no, u think ppl will boycott google now?, i say we stop promoting adsense stop using google and start using msn and yahoo.
Why do you give so much attention to this goddamn guy matt cutts? Work on your sites and enrich them instead of wasting your time.
You know what Sasa -- I just gave you greens Ooops Rob is getting angry -- but he must have done what you said
Here we go again... The old "Google is trying to drive out other advertisers so they are the only ones making money" conspiracy theory... That's total crap. Read what Google and Matt Cutts have said instead of reading all the hysterical misinformed reaction from those in the link-selling trade. None of this is about legitimate advertising. It's about artifical manipulation of PR.
Minstrel - I don't see it as a conspiracy theory at all. I see it as Google protecting their own brand. I'm not saying that this is the primary driver behind the paid links are bad" exercise, I'm saying it's a contributing factor." With respect, I read Matt's blog on a daily basis and am fully aware of what is being said by him and by Google as an organisation. One mans total crap is anothers opinion
Total crap is total crap, however you wrap it up. It's not "the primary driver". I's not "a contributing factor". It's not a factor at all. It's about PR manipulation. And it's nothing new. Neither is the "Google wants to control all advertising" conspiracy theory.
wow thats crazy man.... they ran both these threads together and added it to a google thread But ours was about the topic off web directories ..... and matts words about directories Ive always told other web directiory owners that adsence on directories makes no sense at all. But unfortunatly you will have those in third word countries that will add regardless in hopes that someone clicks the links which i refuse to do as i am against this and always have been....
No. Yours was about the blog entry (and update) by Cutts on paid links, which included his comments about the beffect of paid links discounting on directory listings. It's all the same issue. Against what "and always have been"? And how does AdSense make any less "sense" on a directory page than on any other web page?
