There is nothing wrong with such Malcolm. Since most of us is running a directory and in GENERAL, High Page Rank sites are a Great Value provided :

It links to the specified category. Example if I have this High Page Rank link I am supposed to Link This Here.

    Just My Take. ;)

I think Malcomb was talking about a link in the opposite direction. For example, buying a link on a PR 9 site like the ones google is saying they are discounting. I don't want to pass judgement on people that buy links. It's up to google to decide how they are going to rank sites, and up to us to decide what we can do with the knowledge we have to rank our sites.

So this is the end of site wide link and banners for every site than huh ? Or you can still sell them secretly ?

Cutt's trying to fill his pockets only and does not care if someone else is trying to make some living off the web, sheesh, whats gonaa be next ? Tax on those using google?

I myself could see this as a very good exception to the rule myself because you are actually in relevency to that sites criteria.... very well said and pointed out! :D

What i ment was the directory who adds his sites on a PR8-9 viagra site and makes mention to only his main domain http://www.xxxxxxxx.com as hes purposly doing this just to raise his PR level and nothing more.... google and people aren't stupid they know the difference ;)

    thx

Then I guess we just have to wait for the next round of update to prove any of its validity. Whatever individual owners do with their directory's promotion is up to their decision.

Meanwhile we can go out have fun and not worry too much about speculations. We can find offline work to stretch our muscles have some of the sweat needed or entertain ourselves like movies, karaoke, dancing or simply a stroll in the park. Forget the pressure of whats allowed and what's not. Next round of update we will know when it survives.

    Thanks :)

I agree that its Now all about quality and editorial reviews....
those who choose to accept crap sites will probably be given
crap PR levels or googles manner of reviewing you.

    on a seperate note...

This is how powerful matt cutts words and blog are....

Within the last hour since this story was amended by matt ive recieved 3 submittions for review... go figure...

would he have said this in the first post exactly 1 month ago .... we would not have suffered the crunch he made..

Ok not sure if anyone thinks the way i do ? But anyone looked into the future or thought about it ? They are trying to saturate the advertising market, and want everyone to use google adwords only as medium for advertising on sites or getting any traffic whatsoever, i am guessing its to counter-attack yahoo and msn and their ads network. They are just building the foundation. An evil plan if you think about it.

But anyways i am evil so i think of evil things :) ^^

In another word I think its trying to say is, Don't be deceptive and don't try to change the algorithms in some ways, be natural and take extra cautionaries and make sure to have a sitewide with other sites related to your site.

    Very well done!

Now try and get that guy over thier in the third world country to do the same.... :(
wont happen he has a family to feed but.... then again he will end up paying in the
end when his site is a PR?? for allowing it to happen...

YOU are whom YOU link with

when !ASK! came out with that thread about penis enlargement and breast enhancements
i went into mine and deleted a loot of sites that were in fact spammy...NOT to say they are all spammy just that they were
of very low quality and poorly designed... So lets not go on a witch hunt either people ;)

    thx

Well it is clear to me that google is not looking down on directories for what they do but only trying to stop those who are purposely trying boost pr and rankings. I think that is the real reason behind all of this. There are sites out there which are making $1,000's of dollars a month from there high pr sites and google wants to stop that.

The downside for directory owners is that there are so many haters around and if you are buying high pr links to point to your site then you can bet that one of these haters are going to report it.

This has to be the biggest call for snitching in history and google of all people should know what happens to snitches.
