Looks like "boo hoo briant" is having another busy day hating on America again. What have you done for your country, briant?
So in your America no one can be critical of anything? Sounds like a fascist state to me. Have fun living in your New Soviet Union.
Gtech - this is hating on oil companies. I hate oil companies because they have formed a cartel and are setting the market value because of it. Gas was this high a price per barrel not but a year ago - and retail prices were never this high at that ppb. As far as I see it this is not a "Blame Bush" or "Blame America" - this is a "Standard Oil Trust" issue. Theodor Roosevelt rallied against these tactics and in this case it is the Government's responsibility to ensure that things are indeed fair - rather than a cabal of five major companies with hundreds of subsidiaries. Breaking up oil again will cause prices to fall and destroy the current defacto non-competition that exhibits itself in this way. If the Oil Companies operated as they should in a free trade open market environment they would have to be using the Marginal Principal in order to maintain their income - but because oil's elasticity in the market they can pretty much gouge us for whatever they want - as it is at this time essential for energy useage. I am for the cutting of all government pork spending - retaining the money saved from that and using it to subsidize alternate fuels that are renewable rather than fossil - and thus giving a chance to these alternate energy sources so that prices can fall quickly before this becomes a greater economic issue that could possibly take the momentum of the market and thrash it into another recession, which would give the Libbys more damn stuff to bitch about - and do nothing about.
GTech is probably under a lot of stress these days. Defending the usual suspects is getting harder all the time. On a brighter note, I made the thread a double feature
The article suggests that the demand for gas is inelastic, but it also says that Chevron made more money because they refined less oil. Chevron would've made more money if they refined more oil according to that logic.
Nope, I live a virtually stress free life. Unlike briant, I love America. briant, since it's clear you've never done anything more than bitch, whine, moan and complain about America, is there anything you actually like about the country whose men and women fought for your freedom to sit and berate it every day?
But what if they made less, while another company made more to make up for it, and thus could charge more and have a lesser production cost overall.
The article suggests that supply & demand is not a major price determinant since it mentions that there is a lack of competition. If that were the case, then they could've supplied more and increased the profit margin at the same time. Therefore, significantly incresing their net income.
This coming from the person that made a dumb broad reaching comment about the OP. Is your pot calling your kettle much?
Nope, this comes from about a dozen anti-Amercan threads the OP started since yesterday, compiled with all the threads started since his first visit. Are you anti-American too?
Is your definition of anti-American to not say one critical thing about America? Gee, I wonder what you would have said if you had lived 40-80 years ago about the criticisms to give blacks or women the right to have equal rights. After all you wouldn't want to be anti-American, would you?
Angry liberals often call for definitions. One thing, or everything? Are you making excuses with your questions now? I see you didn't want to answer my last question. Do you feel moral equivalence is the best strategy to mask anti-Americanism at this point? What do you like about America?
wow someone questions energy companies and gtech tells them they hate america lol, got to be new low for gtech Whats next, people who think paris hilton should go to jail hate america?
Absolutely not, I just didn't understand why paris hilton entered the thread especially the way you used her. I thing Gtech was only saying briant was being anti-American because really that is probably the heart of his complaint, not really having to do with gas prices, just being negative. The whole oil industry is full of corruption from the core - OPEC. Now, whether or not the companies in the US are corrupt or just loving their position of having a type of monopoly of price because of OPEC, and reports like that of AAA that give them the excuse to raise prices for every possible reason.
