I have a desktop but need the versatility of moving the laptop around. Some people are backing the Toshibas now?
You won't get the "versatility of moving" the laptop around with a toshiba.. well atleast not the 17 inch ones.. you have to worry about blocking the fan or not.. and it's also heavy lol
As I said earlier on, i have a Toshiba which happens to be a tablet pc (BTW, a total waste of money as I almost never used it), but it's also an ultraportable, and it is. I travel a lot and never without, and it's just great. I said that I never had any problems, but I forgot one that every now and then shows up, and that's a sticky left click button. It's not that bad so I won't dare taking it apart to get rid of the obvious dirt that's kind of moving underneath it, not am I sending it for repair, I am not staying apart from it! And not any other problems apart from needing an external HD for extra storage and it's getting a little slower than it used to be, but obviously it's loaded with stuff...!
if you can afford it, get yourself an IBM/lenovo thinkpad, one of the new t-61 series, built like a brick, and feels just as solid as one, it will last well after college
