Have you noticed that after every PR update, something happens with your rankings ? Since the update is just a "visual" toolbar update, why is this happening ? I noticed a lot of sites in this situation
PR doesn't affect rankings and vice versa. However, rankings are updated more often than PR.. maybe it was a coincidence that they were done at similar times?
There's no connection between google PR and google rankings. But I think when google update the backlinks and PR their algo also change.
i think there is no direct relation between your page rank and your rank but page rank is a result of your backlinks. google is updating your backlinks before the pr update while it's updating the beacklinks i think your serp may be effected
Yeh right! I tell you what I will try and rank my site with home page PR7 links and you try the same with new sites/PR0 .. I can show you example of a classic phrase that is ranking one in Google with just one site wide link from a PR8 webiste (powerful site as) Of course it's just a part but to say there is no cross over is well just wrong. *shrugs* Jay
Are you sure about that? My Google's webmasters guide says something about PR and SERPs. Please refer to the screenshot and the red underlined lines. Not only that -there has been a long thread on this forums that is discussing Matt Cutts Report Paid Links Post. Why? Because people are manipulating SERPs result by buying high PR backlinks and thus getting high PR themsheves that is putting their sites ahead of others. Those who followed Matt Cutts posts and coments on it certainly know PR and SERPs go hand in had along with high quality relevant contents. I certainly don't understand why some people tend to look-down upon the importance of PR whereas Google officially endorses its importance. Maybe because they don't know how to get PR
Some of you are missing the point. I am not asking if PR has anything to do with rankings (i am sure it does, please don't contradict me), I am asking why the change in rankings if the update is only "visual" ? Is it possible that google lies when saying that the actual PR is updated all the time ? More concrete : Has anyone ever noticed a substantial increase in rankings after obtaining a powerful backlink ? Or even better : a substantial increase in rankings after a PR update, after a serious link-building campaign ?
PR doesn't affect rankings And SERP rankings usualy are updated evry day So there is no a conexion I can give you my ecemple before PR update PR5 ranking on 9 for a keyword afther PR4 ranking on 6 and the keyword is competitive over 30 milion results
Ok, doesnt meen no connection though, sure you PR Toobar blah went down a bit but you would have built more anchor texted links (main ranking situation) so sure you whent up ... and EVEN SHOCK ! whe you are talkig about 9 to position 6 type of affairs the on page and move you about.. Esp new pages of content and the titles . But yeh sure I have many sites with only PR4/5's out ranking higher as a pro seo we are about ranking not getting our clients good PR. example I dont do and never for clients, it is still posibble to brute force buy massives of low level links but correct anchor texted links, trust me we have stress tested. Cheers Jay
PR update and rankings both are connected with each other. If your page strength is good according to the google algo then it definetely improve and you got beneficial visiblity in SERP's.
Yes, it's true that PR has nothing to do with SERP's 'coz PR is based on quality links.... while SERP is based on your proper optimization which link building is included... I have seen many HIGH PR pages that their keyword doesn't show on SERPs.....
Despite the popular anti-PR trend of the past few years, PageRank is still very important for ranking well. Not in the way it used to be, granted, but now high PR can keep your pages out of the supplemental index and thereby get your pages more traffic. Of course I wouldn't say something like this knowing that everyone considers PR to be an outdated, overly hyped metric, without a little support. So here's what Matt Cutts has to say: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/infrastructure-status-january-2007/
