Auto Approval directory.. Is it a good option?

I am thinking of starting an auto approval directory (of course based on some filtering criteria I specify in terms of PR, google index avoiding non family-friendly sites).

    Any views on the same?

I think you'll rapidly have a directory of completely worthless sites.

All kind of sites, including spam, adult and pharmacy sites would be there, making the link of no value.
    Waste for me.

Will you review the sites submitted to the directory?

I will be, but I am thinking about automatic approval at least for the sites which matches some basic quality criteria - like PR, google index, bad terms in title, description and url's etc.

If it's auto-approval it's not a directory, it's a link farm. You will soon find it pointing to lots of bad neighbourhoods and distasteful websites. So you won't be able to use Adsense, because people will submit the kind of content they don't allow, and you also won't be able to convince anyone sensible to buy links there.

The only way this could possibly work would be if you had a powerful set of filters, and checked all the links every week. And by powerful filters, I mean much more than just a word filter and captcha.

    It's okay then I think.

Most of the bidding directories are auto-approval directories.:p

octopedia has been an auto approval directory for as long as I know about it.
I am not sure how they managed it.

If even google can't manage this, is there a particular reason why you think it could work ?

it is about the directory rating. If you get 25-30 links a day, you can make it automatically.but if you get 150-200 links a day you have to choose them.I know it was hard and needs time but if you dont, you have a spam directory:)

I think its completely out of question. you will be bombarded by directory submitters who will submit hundreds of sites with their automated softwares and as George55 said --it will be a directory of thousands of worthless links in a week.:(

I don't think it will be that easy, if he charges for submission.

Ahh --Yes--absolutely -very good point . I had the same experience. I opened my now PR6 directory for free submissions on DP --all went right for 2 days --and suddenly I was receving lots of submissions from same IP in the space of few mins. Then I had to put a price --and lo-n-behold --never received a single submission till it attained PR.:D
