    LT HD's are pretty generic/universal. I would think that any ol 2.5" IDE HD would work for you.

    edit: the only specifics I have been able to find thus far on the model is 40GB HD...so I don't think you need anything special (like sata). In fact, I bet you anything the drive that came with it is only 5400rpm(as was mine)...I bought a 7200 rpm for my Aspire 7100, using the old HD for backups.

    This othe guy told me that he had the same laptop as mine, and he purchased an OEM 80 GB and it worked fine....

    What is OEM? How much slots do i have for HD? Do i have to remove my current one to install the new one? What inch size i need?

    OEM = original equipment manufacturer.

    so for instance if you went to tigerdirect.com and bought an OEM hard drive it would likely come in a generic box, the hard drive only...no mounting hardware (not that you'd need it anyway) no software, etc.

    most LT's only have 1 slot for HD so you'd have to swap the one you have now. the size and speed is entirely up to you.

    right, like partitions. you can partition the drive as you want/need but in all actuality you have one hard drive in there!

    yep, though I'd stay clear of Seagate and Fujitsu if I were you...I've had bad issues with both those companies.

    Seagate is most reputable with the masses, but I had trouble with Maxtor (who is now owned by Seagate) a few years ago... lost 2 Maxtor HDs in 10 months.
    But I'd still take Seagate before other generic brands

    External would not be good in my opinion.

    Try getting some high quality brand of HDD. Seagate, Maxtor etc

    I forgot to ask why you needed a new one! failure of the old, or you ran out of room,...

    well why not just get an external and unload what you don't need or buy a new larger one and use the 40GB as a backup like I did....

    hmmm, I don't think I'd ever buy a used HD!! never know what you are getting...if it flames out you are SOL since you do not have any warranty protection

    i think, you can only install 1 HD (2.5) in your laptop. if you want an extra disk space, buy a IDE HD, with high capacity and put it on a portable enclosure(USB).

    I used to love Seagate, though I had good experience with IBM and Western Digital as well, the last HDs I got were Maxtor. Bottom line with current technology they are all more or less the same, unless you are looking for a high performance expensive drives.
