I ask because, I don't. I have a desktop that is protected through Mcafee's suite of products. I recently bought a laptop, and just haven't put enough effort into going to the Mcafee website and buying another subscription. I have been able to see 0 viruses, bugs, or anything else harmful to a computer. So now I ask, do you run an anti-virus? I guess it should be noted that I don't go to certain sites, only trusted ones . At least, on my laptop. Plus, I have Vista. Which is supposed to be secure.
I don't have a AV installed just a firewall. I never really download anything that expect MP3's and or movies.
There's heaps of infected mp3's and movies from the net. I would not be surprised if your machine has hundreds of spyware and viruses. Col
if you get email or files from anyone you need a virus scanner. I use panda antivirus on all my computers, and I run the network version on about a hundred users at work. It is light weight so it doesn't slow the computer down as much as norton, although mcaffees is lightweight too. also, if you have wireless or a network that you connect to, someone can easily just log on with an infected computer and infect your computer without you doing anything at all.
Sooner or later you will get a virus or something related. I use AVG free, its good and not heavy on the resources like mcafee or norton.
I'm using AVG Free Antivirus too. I like his auto-update feature. Ah, on that page you can find also a free anti-spyware and a free anti-rootkit.
Nope i don't use a Anti Vir for like 1 year or so me Laptop is ok I am not in dengerous since i don't download any thing + i don't visit crap sites
You absolutely need an antivirus program. I use a Mac, and Macs typically are less exposed to viruses than PCs. Even so, a couple of weeks ago my antivirus program stopped two separate viruses that came in from seemingly "safe" sites. All you need is one episode of a virus attack, as I had when I first began using computers, and you'll become a convert forever to antivirus programs.
Yea, but I don't dl from p2p. I get mine elsewhere. And I know for for fact they are not infected same with movies.
A very good point indeed. And even "respected" sites can give you something. Hey, and you miss a great part of the internet if you only visit respected sites
Agreed with jim4767. sometimes trusted sites can infect your PC with spywares and viruses. This happened to me twice (Thanks to Mcafee AV) when Mcafee blocked viruses from another big forum. I always keep antivirus, spysweeper and adaware on my PC and I'm still missing anti-hacker
I use AVG now.. but some viruses I had before I started using AVG atacked the core of my computer and it sucks. So I'm saving up to buy a new one and the first thing I do is put AVG on it
here, here! I think it's only a matter of time before you get hit, regardless of how lucky you've been so far...and here we thought Mac's were impervious!!
My anti-virus program is called Macintosh! If you like slumming it and feel the need to use a PC.... Use AVG Free... Simply the best anti-virus program out there. Anything else is just a virus itself, like, Norton.
We Mac users are certainly safer than PC users. But as I mentioned above, my Norton Antivirus for Mac caught not one, but two, viruses trying to get into my Mac a couple of weeks ago. And years ago I had a Mac database program infected by a virus. Mac users do need an antivirus program
Odd, I've never had one... What did you have? Personally I stay as far away from Norton as I can. Are you sure that Norton was not the problem? I've seen Norton all but cripple entire networks of PC's... Just saw it happen last week as a matter of fact.
I agree concerning Norton. Norton System Works, that is. I've had nothing but trouble with System Works. But Norton's Anvtivirus for Mac has served me well for many, many years and has never let a virus in.
Very True, there are FAR less viruses for Macs. I mean, why would the creator of a virus target only 3% of the market...
