With the rumors that ebay is looking at purchasing Skype (a privately held company) there is no chance of purchasing stock in anticipation of a big appreciation in price. But, look at the following and maybe make a comment on what publicly traded company you think Google might purchase. I think Google wants to move into the next generation of the web – the wireless web. And how they are going to do it is by buying a struggling wireless provider. The wireless provider I’m thinking of is T-Mobile. http://www.textlinkbrokers.com/blogs/more/222_0_1_0_M/ hmmm....
Well I would try to get the world wide web three dimensional with that amount of money. Imagine looking at the grand canyon 3d , houses , medical pages etc etc. I guess its like the old saying "money makes the world go round" .
Hmm... Is T-Mobile for sale? What is their current valuation? I would be hard-pressed to seeing one of the major wireless companies letting someone else get into the business. So I would imagine one or more of them would be interested in that property were it for sale, as well.
There is quite a paradigm change required before mobile phones become a viable advertising platform. I don't agree with the article. Most likely, they have taken advice as to what a good price is to sell shares and are off loading them now at a great price.
It's not that much - Apple has more cash than that, and the pundits still predict they're going out of business any day now...
I am not too sure about taking a huge step like that. The reason is that google isn't quite all that ready to tackle wireless yet. Maybe in a few years. I dont think they have the resources to do something better then T-mobile themselfs to compete in the actual market vs the competitors.
I don't know if Google is looking to diversify that much... I think they'll just continue to diversify in the web services area, eg. Paypal type service, maybe VOIP, more online shopping, etc.

This is actually a very good move. If they can get into the Telecoms of developing countries they could get a very large market share. I know, here in SA, decent affordable high speed broadband connections are extremely expensive, if it's available at all. By using power-lines they could reach almost the whole population, thus increasing the use of many of Google's own online products, by increasing the amount of people that can get online.
I heard they were going to offer Free Space wallpaper, an Astronomy Blog, and a site on Mastering the Web next...
They recently bought Android, a very secretive startup. Rumor has it they're developing a mobile OS. That would be a great move in my opinion. Google + cell phones is a natural fit. And if they develop a superior operating system, they have the potential to get the lion's share of the market. When Google has $4 billion, I think the founders and the staff are living it up extravagently. Dancing, eating, drinking, playing... in the office. Yeah... Yahooooooo! Haha... (joking)
