So I started a site and have very low traffic on it now but also pretty good ctr. Anyhow, the highest click I got was 45 cents and all the other ones are like 1-3 cents. What's going on here? Did I just pick a really bad niche (basketball) or is it smart pricing or what?
I have too website which has good CTR but low traffic. My site is about Directories SEO. Maybe you should enlarge traffic than statistics about CPC will be more reliably.
More reliable? Am I missing something? Why is it less reliable when I have less traffic? I know the clicks are earning a small amount. I want to know why and if it's normal. I appreciate the feedback.
Thanks for your feedback, but you're not addressing my question: why are the clicks paying so little? I'm not worried about traffic. That will come with time, but if the clicks are only 2 cents each, I'm wasting my time with the site. Anyone can address the question please? Is basketball just a low paying niche?
Well according to google adwords, currently just to appear in the top ad spot for the keyword "basketball" the advertiser only have to pay 1.61 per click. Now remember that is for google search. Google charge advertisers much less to appear in content sites. So it make sense why you are only recieving 0.01-0.03 cent clicks.
Thank you for the helpful information. How did you know how much adwords charges for the top spot of basketball? It seems that I did not do the proper research before developing the site. Hopefully, you could teach me how to do the proper research for future sites.
It seems that Adsense is changing the payout for a click though. Sometimes I'll get 50 cents and other times I'll get 3 cents. This is for the same adds. I just go with it and hope that my impressions will start going up.
MFA are Made For Adsense site, which have low or inaccurate content. Some sites which also have very tricky ad placements are counted in that category. They want bulk traffic driven to their sites, so they bid very low. Thus you receive low cash for clicks. So it is more profitable to block them. Regards, ~KMKM
Well, Adsense depends on Adwords and if I recall correctly, the lowest you can bid for Adwords is 5cents for each keyword. Basically, not only high paying advertisers can listed, the low paying ones would have their opportunity too. To your visitors, higher paying advertisements does not necessary mean that they would be worded attractive enough for your visitors to click, sometimes lower paying ones are better worded and may be more relevant. If you noticed, Adsense ads do not come with prices listed next to the advertisement and as an Adsense publisher, you will not be privy to how much each advertisement is worth. Besides you cannot force your visitors to click on ads so pretty much it is a probability game. The higher number of visitors you get, the higher number of ads would be shown on your site and the higher the number of people will see the ads and HOPEFULLY, and HOPEFULLY, this would increase the likelihood that your visitors will click on the ads. There is no guarantee that they would do that. Remember that your site must be less attractive than the ads for them to click on it. Some people do have phobia clicking on advertisement. You have no control over what ads appear and which people would click if they ever click. Do not worry about the payout from Adsense, take it as a bonus pocket change. Because if Google did not offer this, you will not get anything at all. Do not take too much enough to generate traffic and let it ride naturally.
Thank you all for the info. So how do I do research for my future sites to see how much different keywords pay?
You really can't. The only way is to sign up for Adwords and do a bid preview of the various keywords and see what they are priced. It however does not necessary mean that those ads would appear on your site, you have no control over those. Besides you will never know how much anyone bids for the keywords. You probably just know what was the highest price ever bidded. Like I said, do not create website just for the sake of earning from Adsense because no matter what you do, you be grossly disappointed. Create website which are you passionate about the topic and if it brings in money, great and if not, well at least you do what you like. If you want more constant income then sell ad space instead, at least you have more control over the payout.
The amount of money you get largely depends on the type of site. There are some types that only give two or three cents a click, and some that give over $5 a click.
also advertisers get to pick how much they want to pay per click i have seen 1cent per click....i thnk adsense does pay to little....for me its high at time then all of the sudden it drops so bad
