"how does this issue concern phpLD directories? the very basis of this thread is due to the artificial inflation of bid prices by conspirators, which is not applicable for phpLD directories." - There is a mod close to release that will give phpld directoires a bidding feature :)

did you not read about the mod that 'might' be coming out? it's going to run rabid and all over. wherever there is a bidding directory, there will always be concerns of scam and conjobs.

all i am trying to do is keep you 'informed'.

Give it a little time and those people will stand out like a sore thumb!

I have already been analyzing many of the bid directories for myself ... it will probably take one or two more PR cycles but we should start to see patterns develop in the bids and the bidders. :)

When you see that $100 bid on a solid PR1 directory with one link, won't you ask why it is there? Is it a tag team, a relative or friend? How many other directories have bids from this site? Are other bidders following?

There is a wealth of information available and someone will pull it all together. Those bids off the charts will draw a lot of attention.

That kind of strategy is very short term, and there is no guarantee that anybody else will follow with higher bids. There are far to many competitors with real value to set up a successful cartel. :)

Forgetting my own shortcomings --these things are the ones bothering me alongwith the script factor ( you know what i mean). I am sure you will come up with something shortly.

I can see some other working on improving the content management, SEO aspect --but I can say that you are the first one who started to work on it:D

You EVIL --you just don't wanna reveal it till time comes:D

Sorry Rob --don't gimme red pls:( :D I am really eager to see the new look of webdirectorybid.

This business model will have to adapt to something else because it certainly needs improvement.

BTW - How major search engines see this type of directories?

No problems getting my site indexed with PR5, and Google sees lots of pages ...
    Results 1 - 10 of about 2,370 from www.mrktcity.com

No different than any other general directory. :D

One of the reasons I started this thread is because I know mods will be released soon that allow phpLD to be used to sort sites by the amount they bid. There are at least three or four different parties that will likely be releasing code soon.

Obviously there are some good benefits as we can see people are spending money. What we don't know is how long these benefits will last.
    1. Will the bidding directories reach a point where it is no longer worthwhile to buy links? In other words, will the homepage and category pages reach a point where the bids are so high that people rarely if ever buy links anymore?
    2. Could google decide that this is a paid of linking strategy that should be discounted in scoring the search results?

What I would like to see in the future would be Bidding for features listings with an expiration date. Maybe there are just three links per category, and the links will show an expiration date, and an amount bid. In addition, the categories would allow for other listings that do not involve bidding.

So with this model, there would be other quality links in addition to the bidding (good for google), and there would be an expiration to the bids, avoiding the situation where the bid directory is inflated to the point of being worthless.

With existing Bid for Placement directories, I think they sold lifetime links, so those will probably peak out at some point, but I think we can work with this model in the future in a more effective way that is good for the model's survival, and for new customers that want to place a bid.

Are you reffering to Sponsored Categories ? If so, that would also be a nice idea. Good thought and more options now.

    Thanks.

Why would benefits differ from any other type of regular directory/category. They are listings just the same no matter how you look at it.

That is the same thing as being on page 1,2,3,4,5, etc.. of a regular directory, so its all the same regardless.
If the directory is strong and promoted, which i see 95% of them NOT EVER being, the link would be beneficial nonetheless.

Nobody will ever know google's reasoning, but if bidding directories took a fall, and then phpld has incorporated bidding, then phpld might take the fall along with it.

I also keep on insisting on the same thing in my previous posts..

Bidding directories(after category addition in phplb v1.2) have became like PHPLD.. The only difference is Top 10 bids showing on homepage..
So even if you bid 1$, you get a listing in a category - similar to adding a listing in PHPLD..

Exactly. Some sites are sorted by submission date, for example (with the bidding directories, if everyone were to bid the exact same amount, it would be sorted exactly the same). The difference with bidding directories is that you can control the position of your listing if you wish, and of course the homepage, top links, etc. possibilities/benefits. The really cool thing about the bidding setup is that you can submit to get listed, and then add more funds later to improve placement, etc. Don't get me wrong. I think both types are good in different ways, and it depends a lot on the site and its owner which I would prefer. There are some sites that are standard now that I wish were bidding. There are others that are bidding now that I wish were standard. ...and still others I wish were never released for both types.

Why are people so quick to call for the death of bid directories? The concept has only been around for few months and the real innovation is just starting.

There is plenty of room for expanding bid directories by offering more features, categories and bid tools. We haven't even begun to tap into traffic metrics as yet ... how much would you be willing to pay for the front page of Yahoo! directory? If people will pay $299 for a page 20 clicks down I could only guess where they could go.

My bid directory also offers free listings ... will they all be penalized, or just the few bidders? There doesn't seem to be any shortage of submitters and we try to maintain the quality of listings.

Feature links are against the concept of bidding ... you want to get to the the top, then you gotta play! :)

By the way some people are already experimenting with expiring links

That is not entirely true ...

With most bid directories you get multiple listings if you are a top bidder. You get a category listing, home page listing, and detail page as a minimum. Some sites also offer a top sites listing, RSS feed and subcategory link. Thats up to six links by my count, for a single bid. Which PHPLD directory offers that kind of value?

Take some time and see what Bid for Position has to offer.

We may need to find out what are the common "fear" or doubt in the future of bidding directories.

There are so many negative voices already, and this trend is only few months old (the concept itself is not new).

No need to call on a death of bid directories.
There are just some kinks that need to be worked out.

I would prefer a MOD to transform the PHP bid script in to PHPLD :D

Well I started the first annual, bid for position directory :)

How they will know the difference from biding/regular directories Ex. i removed the "$" from bids, and listed some authority sites

Already done "Sponsored listing MOD's" not biding directory.

    The answer annual bids :)
