I'd recommend figuring out what you really enjoy. Something that you feel passionate about and would love to share with others. Turn it into a niche web site. If you love it, creating a web site about it becomes fun. Buy a Site Build It where you get to turn your idea into a small business and where you can concentrate on the content and let the technology work behind the scenes for you. A friend of mine who resides in Israel named Elad created a site about kids birthday parties with SBI and, six months later, was pulling in $2000 a month. My own site is doing great (not as good as his, but coming along). I've been in web design for over 7 years now and think that Site Build It is awesome for beginners or pros. Since you have all that experience, you'll be ahead of a lot of regular business people who work with it. I would never do another site without it. It is just that cool.
But if your passionate about something that makes you money, why not go for it? I mean honestly, he wouldn't be here if he wasn't interested in making money. There is money to be made everywhere, why not in a niche that will interest you and drive you to make more money? But I do agree to some degree, if I was offered a site making $xx,xxx a month, but the site was dreadfully boring to maintain... I would still run it
Buy it or not, it works. When you are building a web site and ultimately a small business about something that turns your crank, your passion comes across to your visitors. There are already more than enough web sites out there that simply come across as facts and information. People can get that anywhere and are bored with it. You need to do something unique and over-deliver to your visitors. If you don't write about something you enjoy, you will burn out. Work becomes dull and you become a slave to your job. You may as well have kept your 9-5 job, slaving to your boss. That is what you're trying to get out of, so you need to do something different. Albert Einstein said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. What people love is someone's excitement, their stories, their experiences. They want to be turned on, too. If you can appeal to their senses, you have them. From there the traffic grows. When you keep the whole thing in order: Content > Traffic > Pre-Sell > Monetize It works. It's when people get those things out of whack that they flounder. When they are worked like a fine-tuned engine, the money will come. I'm living proof and I have other friends who are too that there is nothing better than making money from something you thoroughly enjoy and are having a great time with.
Hi CocoMonkey, I believe you already have all the technical knowhow to build your successful internet business, what you need more now would be to understand deeply on the business side. There are actually many business models on internet. They could be related to Ads revenue through building high traffic site (adsense, etc..) or pay per click marketing(adwords, etc..), sell Infoproduct (ebooks, softwares, etc..), Sell physical product (ebays, dropshipment model,etc..) and many more. You would need to do some research to understand the big picture and starting focus on niche market and biz model. Many of this information are free and some are only available for a fee. Always do a research before spending any money. Like building any business internet business will take time and money (usually much less $ than offline business). I just do not believe get rich quick is actually works for most legitimate business on internet and in general. Avoid those money games, chain letters ...they are mostly scams. One of the way to get start quickly is to invest in complete ready to use money-making site. What it does is getting everything ready for you to get you started quickly. That is not the important part, the important part is the step-by-step guide daily on how to build your business forward and by actually doing it instead of just reading. This is a great ways to learn and by doing it at the same time. You can always build more business, websites, selling more other products in future once you mastered the technique and process. Again always spend money within your mean, take time to read and understand about what business opportunities they are offering. Like any business you would need to control your expenses in order to gain max profit. All the best
Why didn't you start when you where in university ....... Olso ibelive you i learned evrything on myown and at university only BS and crap that will not make me any good in future ....
I think you should do what you like. After all Youtube was just an idea of what they liked, sharing videos...and eventually it became a business. But the key is they had fun doing it!
are there examples of some of us here with successful small businesses they can share a link of and comment on their business?
First you need to make a plan. Divide your years into short terms. I would suggest that you have a trial period of 3 months. Give your best and make fixed goals. Say after 3 months your sites should make xxx$. Make desperate attempt to achieve your goal. Do or die. If it doesn't work out you will have 9 months to recover and look for something else or get a job and do this business as part time.
Hi publicdomainkid, You've got a good idea for the start of a new thread here in the "General Business" section.
I think it's a good idea to check the buy/sell forums because you can see what is working for other people before putting time and money into something. But that is just the beginning. Once you have an idea for a business (whether spun from your own brain or some place else) it is a good idea to get involved in the business from every angle before investing further. Once you've EXPERIENCED everything from each perspective within that particular industry, then you are ready to think of ways to improve things. Automate your improvement and then you've got a business. Hope that wasn't too off track.
Just 2 more weeks!! Then my new bussiness can begin!! I have no idea what im going to do other then keep making news sites, and get them popular. It's not much of a bussiness plan. lol I'm starting with nothing! My last rent has come through from the flat i have had at university, leaving me with $300. I will be back in with my parents with $300 to start my bussiness. I'll have to start making some money in my spare time making flash games aswell as making my websites. -- There are 24hrs in a day for a reason! Cheers guys.
Since you learned flash and have made games and sold them. Why don't you pursue this. I also have made games and from my experience there is allot of money to be made in this field.
I find its a lot of work, with little pay. I have made some good games, and usally get about £250 ($350?) -- the games take time to make, then you always get clients wanting changes, somtimes going on for ages. You have to find sounds, music, which i can not compose. It soon becomes not worth it. I will probbly have to do this in 2 weeks time, just to get some money built up, but i do not fancy being a freelance game creator for long. If you have any tips doug to make it a simpler proccess that would be great. One thing most sites dont talk about is setting prices. I am not very good when it comes to telling people how much a game will be. Cheers.
Just want to say Good luck cocoMonkey ... why won;t you create a gamesite of your own..if you are good at creating games..everything will be yours...then sell them from your own site..
lol, i've thought about it haynesey, but there are so many about, and it would be taking valuable time out of my busy days cheers for the luck shashank4u
