Too much spam in threads?

I really think some rules against self promotion need to be established here. Lot of self promotion makes reading treads useless and much less informational.

I want to read some good info, not to browse spammy promotional posts.

Take a look at this post in this tread for example.

If you ask a question like:"What are best sites for this or that" you will get spammed with people posting their own sites which even don't fit your criteria.

I really like this forum a lot, but I am seriously considering moving to another forum.I don't want to loose even 10 minutes a day reading this type of posts.

I think something have to be done to limit this.

Are you guys with me or not?

If you think a post is spam report it and a mod will take a look.

Well if we found something wrong in posts/thread than we just reported it to Mod. Than Mod. will decide about that posts.

If he feel ok than no problem and if he feel wrong than post will be removed.

My point was that I don't want to spend time reporting other posts-I want to read them.
Maybe more mods or some more strict rules would help.

(((The thread you linked to is removed, so I couldn't see it)))

IMO, the option to self-promote is one of DP's most unique features.
    • If you take it away, then DP becomes "just like other forums"
You can certainly argue about 'acceptable standards':
    • What are they, really?
    • How should our 'acceptable standards' by changed or clarified?
In the end, DP is a very free place, and without some 'garbage' you can't really have the freedom.

I'd guess more than 90% of the posts the get deleted, edited or people get infracted for is due directly to the post being reported. Maybe 1 out of every 100 infractions I give is becuase of something I saw that was not reported. The members really run the show here, we just do our best to look into what's reported.

Then your report gets closed, the thread post remains in place and we all go about our day. There are a lot of things people report that are not violations of the rules so we simply close the report.
