Why my data entrymistake cost me 8 days of phone & internet service Synopsis: 33% OE (operator error - Me), 33% Tracfone, 33% AT&T, 1% other = 100% SOL So my wife and I have decided to ditch Verizon as our cell phone provider b/c it's costing us way more than what we are utilizing for minutes. I mean we maybe only use 40% of the minutes allotted per month and even then, 1/2 of that is just convoys between us that very well could be done via land lines. So there I was with the new Tracfone, already having programmed my cell phone, went off without a hitch. This time it was the wife's phone and while I was entering all of the information I failed to notice that I accidentally entered our home phone number as the number I wished to assign to the new cell phone...BIG MISTAKE!!!! And of course Tracfone has a rudimentary web user interface...no confirmation dialogs or anything. Once you hit "submit" it's all over!! No recourse, no do overs, no help whatsoever. Not realizing my mistake right away the "port request" already went through and all of a sudden the cell phone thought it was my home number. 3 phone calls to Tracfone and I finally got the cell phone corrected but I was no closer to undoing my original mistake. So I tried contacting AT&T about the problem...they told me that Tracfone has to initiate the cancellation. I won't bore you with all the details but sufficed to say everytime you call either Tracfone or AT&T you get transferred 3-5 times and are on hold at least 45 minutes per call. I finally got in touch with a "floor supervisor" @ Tracfone & she said they will make the cancellation but as it turns out they never did. Then the same afternoon, some woman calls me from TF, tells me everything will be done as I originally requested and she gives me a phone number to contact her and guess what the NUMBER DID NOT WORK!!! Real good. NOW here I am holding the phone...no dial tone, no internet. AT&T tells me that now that the phone number has been released they need to reclaim it...7-10 days. Flippin' great!! That's how my week has ended... you know the really stupid thing...I never gave TF my AT&T account information! I guess all they need is the phone number? How stupid is that? AND AT&T can't cancel the order...another thing that makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. phone companies suck!
Classic example of why i started removing my T-Mobile Tech Truck magnet whenever I drove between trouble calls.
ha-ha, too many people trying to flag you down! so for a lark, if you want to jack with someone, port their home phone
I had took over an area of northern Florida that was pretty much neglected as far as keeping sites working and making calls stop being blocked. Needless to say before I left I made alot of in roads to building up the site network.
Yeah lots of overtime and no family life. The only real positive was the free use of truck and paid maintenance and those bi-weekly checks.
I wouldn't think that would be enough to hold me there for very long...you know unless it was like a racing circuit truck - whatever the Nascar equiv is
This is not just an issue with Trac Fone, it would happen with any company. Dumb mistakes that cost you alot, not sure why ATT can't cancel, all they have to do is put on a block unless it was already finished. I had the old MCI try to screw me over and my company took care of it and cancelled it in 5 minutes. I do agree that phone companies suck, here is how I got a different problem fixed, I researched the phone company (Verizon) a little and found the CEO's nmae and then I looked at how the company did emails. I gave it a shot and emailed the CEO (not a published email). The next day (a sunday) I had four trucks show up and they worked on the problem for 11 hours till it was fixed. Try to go as high as you can, you get service quicker.
I use Tracfone, and I've never had any problems. Then again, I never had to call the customer service department either.
One more piece of advice. Use Net10, it is owned by tracfone but it cost only 10 cents a minute. I love mine!
that's cool, isolate and escalate!! yeah, I'm sure the other 99K things they did that day worked fine...I was the unlucky one. The kicker was the lady that called me from Tracfone and left a bogus number for me to call if I had any issues thanks!
I love tmobile pay as you go.. After you spend $100 you get extra anytime minutes.. (I believe the time is good for a year after you spend the $100.00) I use to have monthly service with them but switched, we rarely use you our cells...
tracfone does suck i purchased a 100 minute card from there website tryed to add it to the phone and got errors so i called them they said my phone was defective and they said they had to send me a new one.said it would be here in 3-5 days i did get the phone 45 days later then to top it off i called to activate the phone and they tell me i cant use the card i purchased to activate the phone because it has been used.i ended up having to do a charge back on my credit card
huh! I didn't know any of the major carriers did the pay as you go option!! Y, outside of this massive hiccup...smooth sailing thus far. that's brutal. I got lucky in this case b/c I tried to add minutes to the phone while it was in limbo but once they sent me a new SIM card I was good to go. That was the other thing...she said that in order to fix it itmight take 5-7 days...next morning the new sim was @ my doorstep! THANKS for the info Tracfone has a slew of retailers, Wal-mart being the most common. I am not familiar with the NET10 thing
no question he got shafted, so you are probably saving yourself a lot of hasstle. I must have spent about 10 hours + on hold (on the phone) last week between Tracfone and AT&T trying to sort out this FUBAR I found myself in.
