In the medium to long term which Classification Type of Directory is going to be the most used on the web Category Directories or Bid For Position Directories Please vote on the Poll Thanks
As Bid for position directories are now having category structure, I see no difference between them.. The only difference is top 10 bids which will be a source of traffic. And Bid for position may be dominating.
Both are equal right now in my view, and i think you should have added option like, Both are good, and nothing will dominate them.
With matt cutts thing about paid link , i am sure bid for links directories will go extinct if google actually bring such a thing into picture.
I am not convinced with Bid position directories as of now. Need to see what happens and study them for a long time before I can say anything definitively. I am also not after quick bucks --( Except few famous promoters --I don't know how other bid-for-position directories will be promoted) -- so will stay away from them as long as I am not convinced about their longevity/sustainable viability.
Great Post jhnrang Excellent viewpoint and that is exactly how I assess them And hence why the OP asked simply which would be most used/popular
Thanks Pete -- While every new thing is exciting -it also needs sometime to develop into an established thing Actually there are lots of factors to consider about bid for position directories-- at this stage. As Amit ( he was the first who bought a script on v7n forum as I know which was a copycat of dollarlinking script)-and Rob would say -when I came to know about their directories --the first thing I asked them was if it was possible to chage the structure/layout of the directories-I am not against them --infact I always love innovations and creativity. The storm started in March and I can see the structure has already changed from Letter wise listing to Category-wise listing which is a positive step forward. But the script still has many many miles to go in terms SEO friendlyness -content management etc. Unless the developers do not emphasise on content management -then....well....you guess it But I quite like BIGWEBLINKS --it is different from others and I have great respect for its structure.
Highly relevant comment but the astute serious players are successful for that very reason, ie they have the nous and expertise to be successful irrespective of the type of directory, they know who they are, and what they are doing, and there is a handfull of them. But guess what, do you know other factors to how they achieved leading positions in the market Because they work very, very hard and all have sustainable marketing and support programs It's not easy it takes commitment
I voted for category directories. Like jhnrang and paid, the whole Cutts thing is something to think about.
Update on the voting so far Category Directories will be most Popular 11 84.62% Bid For Position Directories will be most Popular 0 0% Neither a New Type of Directory will be most Popular 2 15.38% Interesting ummh lets see some more votes
The bid for position is not very well tested. Really, it is just a different way of sorting the listings. To the user, I'm not sure they find the amount that someone paid as important (but maybe in some cases they would). In general, its always good to experiment with different ways of involving the user, as well as the advertiser.
Nope, sorry, as soon as I release it I'm sure Rob will make a Mod to do the exact same thing... it's quite a friggin cool idea though
Well david why not include such sorting in your phpld and have a module for bidding built in for highest price a user pays for their link ? From what i see phpld has only fixed featured or payment price features i see nothing like different price for sorting anything. So if its really just a different way of sorting why not work on it brining it in phpld itself?
This is already in the works by 3 different people (at least). You'll start seeing it soon. I'm sure the mod developer will announce it here on DP (most likely). There was actually a thread earlier today, where someone showed a demo of what they had done, and then we discovered there was a second site doing it too. I'm pretty sure some code will be available soon, though I don't know who will be the first to have it ready.
David just wondering why is phplinkdirectory never works on such modifications and wait for others to release something ? Anyways thats separate story you can explain it to me in detail in pm if you want. Cause i seen not any interesting mods come out from phpld staff or yourself.
I wish we could keep up with everyone, but that is not possible. We definitely have some mods in the works now (always do).
